Four Ways to Profit from Legal Marijuana

Four Ways to Profit from Legal Marijuana

by Melanie Marquis

Legal marijuana has grown into a hugely profitable and diverse industry, with Colorado recreational dispensaries alone boasting over 60 million in monthly sales. Dispensaries, cultivation warehouses, testing facilities, and marijuana-infused products manufacturers are without a doubt raking in big money, but opening such a business is no easy task. Application fees and licenses alone can run into the tens of thousands in Colorado, not to mention the enormous amount of red tape that must be successfully traversed. However, there are many other ways to tap into the cannabis market with lower start-up costs and a lot less hassle. If you've ever wondered how you might start your own cannabis-based business, check out these four ways “budding” entrepreneurs just like yourself have found success and profit in legal marijuana:

Marijuana-themed Arts and Crafts: From hand-blown glass pipes to custom-made bong stands, artisans and crafters are creating profitable products that appeal specifically to cannabis enthusiasts. If you're a creative or artistic type, this business might be right for you. Consider your interests and skill set. Do you enjoy painting and have a love of getting high in the Colorado Rockies? Perhaps you could paint mountain scenes on wooden boxes to create one-of-a-kind marijuana stashes. Are you good at making jewelry? There's a strong market for fashion and novelty jewelry featuring special detachable beads that double as pipes, lockets in which to tuck a bud, or hidden pins you can use to poke out a clogged bowl. Love to sew? Maybe you could make some cushioned bags to keep delicate glass pieces safe and snug. Identify your talents and brainstorm creative ways to capitalize. Homemade arts and crafts can be sold online, at local dispensaries and Head shops, and at many community fairs and festivals.

Professional Services: The marijuana industry is serious business, and these businesses require a variety of professional services just like any other serious business. Whether you're an accountant, lawyer, real estate agent, interior designer, copywriter, web developer, carpenter, cleaner, or a consultant, cannabis dispensaries and other big marijuana businesses could likely use your services. Specializing gives your business an edge over competitors, and with its unique needs and broad and ever-expanding customer base, the marijuana industry is a lucrative area of focus. Get to know the owners of your local herb stores, network, hand out business cards, and offer discounts or incentives for referrals to help kick-start your business.

Private Clubs: Private cannabis clubs that allow members to consume (but not purchase) cannabis on the premises are making money as well as headlines in Colorado Springs, Denver, and elsewhere. Such clubs charge a membership fee, and in exchange provide a safe place to chill out and enjoy one's herbs. The rules at these clubs differ and regulations are somewhat ambiguous, as there are currently no state guidelines specifically overseeing or licensing such clubs. Most operate under exceptions established for private clubs which allow indoor smoking at places of employment that employ three or fewer people and where access is restricted to members only. Some clubs only allow outdoor smoking or vaping, some offer food and drink, and some do not. Rules may soon become clearer and licensing requirements stricter, however, under legislation proposed by state Representative Kit Roupe, a Republican from Colorado Springs. The new regulations would establish a statewide system for licensing such clubs, and individual municipalities would be able to set their own additional rules and guidelines. It's unclear at this point what the specific licensing fees and requirements would be as the legislation is still in its draft phase, but it's likely to be a more affordable and streamlined process than it is to open a dispensary or cultivation facility. The proposed legislation is on the slate for the next session of the Colorado General Assembly which is scheduled to meet in early 2016.

Tour Companies: Cannabis-themed tour companies in Colorado and Oregon are offering tourists a convenient and fun way to check out the local herb scene. These tours may visit dispensaries, drive past cultivation facilities, provide information on local laws and weed-friendly establishments, offer tips for making the most of the legal weed, make pit stops at private cannabis clubs, connect travelers with 420-friendly lodging, and more. New tour operators are usually required to pass a criminal background check, obtain proper insurance, and meet other regulations and licensing guidelines that may apply at the state or local level.

These are just a sampling of cannabis-based business ideas that have succeeded, and there are many other business models worth considering. There is definitely money to be made in marijuana, if only you consider your strengths, do your research, consider your resources, and put your mind to it.

Organizing Your Weed Coupons

Posted by CANNASaver on Tuesday, 23 August 2016 in Canna Blog

Organizing Your Marijuana Coupons

If there’s one thing that every nutty coupon mom knows, is that even a coupon for $1,000,000.00 free cash is totally worthless if you can’t find it and use it before it expires.  Now if you’re a casual couponer and only keep one or two coupons around, ready to use in the next few days, then your wallet or refrigerator door may work. But those of us who really like to get the best deals on weed, and those of us with short term memory problems, will need to get organized to see the greatest savings and here’s what you’ll need to do it.

A Container

What type and size of container depends on your lifestyle, personal preferences, and weed couponing habits.  There are many suitable containers in most homes, so you may not even need to buy anything new.  Index card boxes work nicely, like the ones sometimes used to keep recipe cards in.  There are also specialized binders and pouches that come straight from the store ready to fill with your favorite weed coupons.  But my personal favorite deal catching device is a regular old envelope.  Of course, a new one will work fine, but being frugal, I usually will just repurpose one that comes in with a bill.  The best envelopes are usually the long, business size ones because they hold even long weed coupons without folding.  Folding coupons is a real time waster and makes it hard to see expiration dates and other important details printed on the face of the coupon.

A Good System

Next, it is time to decide how to organize the coupons so that they are easy to find and use.  This is another preference call, but the idea is to set the system up so that you can use the coupon you want when you want to use it.  What good are flower coupons when you want to get a great deal on shatter?  And even a great wax deal is no good if the dispensary with the best wax coupon is on the other side of town and you’re stuck without a ride.

Organize the weed coupons the way you use them.  If you buy many different marijuana products from many different dispensaries, then maybe the best system for you will include sections for each different type of marijuana product.  For example, separate sections for wax, shatter, edibles and bud – each with coupons from different dispensaries in Denver.  But if you only buy bud from one or two different dispensaries, maybe a system dividing the coupons by weight would serve you better.  This system would have a section for deals on eighths, one for ¼’s, and one for great ounce deals too.

Remember, the best weed coupon filing systems are ones that you can understand and remember so that you can always use them to get the best weed deals around.  I also like to include a section at the front where I can put the coupons I am using on this shopping trip so that I don’t have to hold a stack of coupons while I shop, or hold up the line at the cash register while I dig for them in the different sections of my envelope.

Upkeep

It’s true, saving money on weed like anything, takes time.  Luckily, the only time it really takes to keep up with your marijuana coupon filing system now that you have it all setup, is spent checking up on expiration dates.  Some coupons have no expiration date and will essentially last forever, but many coupons do expire and once they do, they cannot be used no matter how much you whine, gripe, flirt, or complain to the budtender.  In order to avoid personal disappointment and potential problems at the cash register, it’s always a good idea to keep your weed coupon filing system free of expired coupons.

Make a habit of sitting down for a few moments every couple of weeks, or at least once a month, and review the expiration dates.  Throw away any coupons that have expired.  Any that are nearing their expiration date can be moved to the front of the section, or even a specially designated section, to make sure that they aren’t forgotten and get used before the great deal on weed goes up in smoke.  Take it from an experienced couponer, there isn’t a whole lot that feels worse than having a great coupon for something you really want to buy and then finding out at the cash register that the coupon is expired and the great concentrate deal you thought you had is suddenly shattered.

Following these easy steps to setting up your own weed coupon organization system may seem like unnecessary work when you’re just trying to get high, but why not take a few moments and get setup to save tons of money on the weed you buy?  Saving money on marijuana is good for the budget, good for the stashbox, and can be a little fun too when you think about how much money you’re saving, and how much more pot you can buy thanks to marijuana coupons from Cannasaver.com

Is Dabbing Intimidating to First Timers?

Posted by CANNASaver on Tuesday, 01 November 2016 in Canna Blog

The Dabbing Intimidation Factor

Seeing someone pull out a dab rig for the first time can be pretty intimidating for someone unfamiliar to the process. Dab rigs are pretty similar to any kind of water pipe, but they have some kind of heated element like a titanium or quartz nail that has to be heated to around 300 to 400 degrees before the concentrate is applied to it, more often than not with a hand-held torch. So when your friend busts out a bright blue propane torch when all you wanted to do was smoke a little there is definitely understandable doubt. Mostly I was just reminded immediately of hot knifing, which again did not garner any confidence in me. There are also straws, essentially a straight glass or glass and metal pipe, which also require their tips to be superheated, some with water chambers for some filtration but some literally just being thick glass tubes. But luckily with the constant expansion of the marijuana industry there have been a number of great improvements to this process that can make regular concentrate use a much less hassling process.

One of the more important ones that I unfortunately do not see people using as often is enails. Enails attach to the heating element of a rig and run electrical current into it to heat it up, and can do so at specific temperatures, which they can then maintain fairly constantly so you don’t have to go through the process of relighting your propane torch every time you want to dab, which as a regular user can be several times in a row. There are a wide variety of enails, many with digital readouts to dial in exact temperatures, which can be nice for those familiar enough to do specific temperatures for different kinds of concentrates to make sure they are getting the most out of them.

I have also used a few devices that are essentially an enail built into a full rig, though really just classifying as box vaporizers with some  new level of portability, for instance the VapeXhale which heats your concentrate in it’s own proprietary setup with glass attachments for actual inhale. These can give especially clean hits, and are a little more stable than trying make sure all your enail cables and rig are constantly safe, especially if you use them often. I would personally go this route, as ultimately ditching the torch fuel cost overtime would be worth it for me. These setups have also gotten considerably cheaper now that there are more companies producing them, some of them incredibly easy to use as well.

Vape pens are another growing market now that their demand has risen, similar to the previous vaporizers but almost always pocket sized. These of course don’t have quite the power or stability but they can still be a good option if you’re someone who’s out and about, and there are a huge number of options for them, from disposables to crazy high end, though some can only do specific concentrate types with specific attachments, and I definitely recommend finding one with a double coil over anything else, as vape pens can run into some issues as far as making sure to vaporize all of the concentrate loaded in them, less at a time is definitely better. There are also the preloaded disposable cartridges that can fit many e-cigarette batteries, which can be incredibly portable but may offer less as far as range of strains.

So why do it any other way? One of the important element of marijuana usage has always been the process. Some people enjoy getting their nails heated perfectly by themselves, some people still only smoke blunts or joints just because that’s what they’ve always done, some people only break up weed with their hands. But as concentrates continue to grow as an industry it’s nice to know there are people still making innovation in the accessories sector. I recommend trying new gear when you can, you never know what apparatus will hit you the hardest and new things come out all the time

CBD for Dogs?

CBD for Dogs

Unlikened to the 2000 stoner movie Dude, Where's My Car? where Jesse (Ashton Kutcher), and Chester (Seann William Scott), are entertained by Nelson's (David Herman), stoner dog as the dog tokes from a self resembling pipe, CBD for dogs seems to be having a positive growing effect on man's best friend.

CBD Cannabis produced pet products are produced mostly from hemp which has significantly different properties than the most consumed pot plants. Further discussion on the difference between hemp and medicinal marijuana will be discussed in another post, but for the most part, Hemp is part of the cannabis plant family but has an extremely low level of THC,  grows differently than THC-containing cannabis, and is well known for industrial use. Both are derived from the Cannabis Sativa L plant. Hemp contains from 0.3%-1.5% of THC while medicinal cannabis contains around 5% to 10%.

CBD extracted from Hemp -aka- Hemp Cannabidiol, or Hemp CBD is a non-psychoactive oil  extracted from cannabis plants.  Non-psychoactive meaning your dog won't get stoned!

Dogs, similar to humans produce natural chemicals in the body that interact within the endocannabinoid (EC) system called cannabinoids.  These cannabinoids work the same way in animals as they do in humans.  They work directly on the endocannabinoid (EC) system through cannabinoid receptors.

Cannabinoid receptors are a class of cell membrane receptors. There are two types.  CB1 receptor which is expressed mainly in the brain, the central nervous system, lungs, liver and kidneys. The CB2 receptor is expressed mainly in the immune system.

There are several companies and entrepreneurs already extracting, baking and shaping cannabis derived pet products. A quick internet search and you'll delight your best pal with a variety of healthy CBD treats including liquid concentrates, oils, edibles, biscuits, and capsules with plenty of treats sure to please and keep your pet at peace.

The American Pet Products Association suggests that the U.S. pet industry grew at an 8% CAGR to reach $58.51 billion in 2014.  $13.72 billion of that was derived from the retail pet medicine market with CBD-based products.

The APPA ( American Pet Products Association) has shared some interesting data that should provide insight as to the future revenues of CBD for dogs. They report that in 2015 the total pet industry expenditures in the United States hit $60.28 million and is estimated to hit $62.75 million this year.

$15.42 billion was spent on animal care, followed by $14.28 billion spent on animal supplies and over-the-counter medicine. Live animal purchases captured $2.12 billion while  pet food delivered $23.05 billion. Pet services such as grooming and boarding grew to $5.41 billion in 2015.

Dogs are best friends and family members.  They are loyal and trustworthy. They also know all your secrets and see everything you do when no one else is around.  Just think... what if your dog could really speak?!

Enjoy the Now!

Marijuana Laws in Colorado

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 05 June 2015 in Canna Blog

Colorado Recreational Marijuana Laws

With the passing of Amendment 64 on November 6, 2012 adults 21 years of age and older can now legally possess 1 ounce of marijuana or any product containing THC in Colorado, including concentrates, edibles and cannabis seeds. Recreational stores didn't officially open until January 1, 2014. You don't have to be a resident of Colorado or register anywhere to consume recreational marijuana, it applies to anyone 21 and above who has a valid government issued ID. The law also allows each adult to grow up to 6 plants, 3 of which can be in the flowering stage in an enclosed, locked space.

Although any adult is allowed to possess up to 1 ounce, non-residents of Colorado will be restricted to purchasing no more than 1/4 ounce (7 grams) in a single transaction. This law was created to prevent visitors from going around to multiple stores and stockpiling marijuana for export. There is nothing illegal about visiting more than 1 store a day, but most recreational stores will only serve you once a day. As long as you don't exceed the 1 ounce per person possession limit, you are still within the law. Please be aware that your right to possess marijuana in Colorado does not apply when you are visiting national parks, national forests or monuments or other federal properties, such as courthouses.  Also be aware that many ski areas are located on federal land.

The state allows marijuana stores to operate from 8am to midnight, but cities can impose more restrictive hours than the state allows. Denver dispensaries are required to close by 7pm, Aurora stores are open till 10pm and other places like Glendale are open till midnight, so check the hours of the store if you plan on going after 7pm.

Amendment 64 does not permit the consumption of marijuana "openly and publicly." You can still get a ticket for smoking weed in public, similar to open container laws for drinking in public. Discretion is appreciated, and usually required. Technically you are also not allowed to blaze indoors at any bar, club, or restaurant due to the clean indoor air act. Private cannabis clubs are the exception to this rule, where you can buy a day membership. Some allow indoor smoking since they are private and others allow vaping inside and smoking outside. Even though concert venues are private, many consider them publicly accessible private venues, and therefore consumption of marijuana is prohibited, but it really depends on the venue and the crowd as to how these rules are applied, so just air on the cautious side when smoking at a concert.

Driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal and the legal limit is 5 nanograms per milliliter of blood, but this law has been highly debated because people metabolize THC at different rates and the amount of impairment varies drastically for each person. Unlike alcohol, it's hard to determine if a person is impaired based on THC levels. If the police do suspect you of driving stoned, they can require you to take a blood test. We all should know when were impaired or not, so just be smart and don't drive under the influence.

The open container law  in Colorado makes it illegal to possess marijuana in the passenger area of a vehicle if it is in an open container, a container with a broken seal, or if there is evidence of consumption.  But this is questionable because what constitutes an open container of marijuana?

Exporting marijuana from Colorado is illegal and the Feds are watching Colorado very closely as the bordering states are extremely pissed off that we have such relaxed marijuana laws, so simply put, don't do it. Mailing weed home or to your buddies is also a bad idea.

Get a Deal on Weed and go to a Cannabis lounge, coming soon...

Last November, voters approved Initiative 300, which legalized cannabis consumption lounges in Denver, and at looks like these lounges will at last soon be open. So pretty soon you will be able to get a Denver weed deal and head to a cannabis lounge with your friends. These cannabis lounges will allow patrons to consume marijuana on site, meaning Colorado tourists as well as locals will have a much easier time finding a place to legally blaze up all this fine weed we have around here. Currently, public consumption is off limits, so if you have some concentrates or bud you wish to enjoy, you have to either hide out and watch your back, be in your own private residence, or find a friend who will let you come over--all pretty difficult tasks for a traveler who doesn’t have friends here and who doesn’t know a whole about the city. Being able to shop at a Denver dispensary then immediately be able to find a place where you can actually smoke it without fear will be a huge improvement, especially for tourists.

City officials have met numerous times this year to try to work out the rules and regulations for cannabis consumption lounges, and as of June 30th, they have finally succeeded in finalizing the details. Some of those details are rather restrictive, intended to limit the number of cannabis consumption lounges operating in the city. Potential cannabis lounges will have to seek approval from the city as well as from the neighborhood in which they wish to locate, and businesses that hold a liquor license will not be eligible to apply. These rules will remain in effect for the course of Denver’s three-year pilot program. In 2020, the City Council will meet again to reexamine the measure and see if any adjustments need to be made.

With marijuana a booming business, entrepreneurs have been impatiently waiting to be the first to open a public cannabis consumption lounge. They’ll have to wait a little longer though, unfortunately, as the city has still yet to open up the application process. Once new licensing procedures are set into place and city inspectors have done their part, say officials, the applications will be open. Those interested in opening a cannabis consumption lounge should start saving up now and gaining neighborhood support, as the licensing procedure will be tedious, and the fees decidedly hefty.

Despite the delays, the city is anticipating that Denver’s first public cannabis consumption lounges could open in just a few months time, as early as Fall 2017. So what will these new lounges look like? We know they won’t be able to serve alcohol, so perhaps some of the lounges will consider serving coffee, tea, or other treats. Perhaps there will be cannabis cafes that serve gourmet marijuana edibles. Or, we might see art studios doubling as cannabis lounges. Live music seems like a great fit for weed-smoking, so I expect many of the cannabis lounges will feature live bands and other performances. Ultimately, we’ll all just have to wait and see, and at least we won’t have to wait too much longer (hopefully!) to find out.

With so many tourists flocking to Denver to enjoy the beautiful flowers, super-potent concentrates, and out-of-this-world edibles, one thing is certain: Denver’s cannabis lounges are bound to be a huge success.

CannaSaver is free to use and you don’t have to sign up or register to get the deals, although you’ll probably want to, so you’ll be sure not to miss the best dispensary deals and other Denver coupons for travelers. Here is a roundup of some of the best summer deals and dispensary coupons in Denver that every marijuana tourist should know about.

Denver’s Best Dispensary Deals

CannaSaver is the easiest way to find the best deals at dispensaries in Denver with the lowest cost marijuana, whether you’re looking to buy a quarter ounce or just a few joints. One of the most popular Denver coupons for marijuana right now is for a $15 eighth from The STONE dispensary. Another great deal is for a top-shelf eighth for less than $21 from High West Cannabis. MMJ America also has a cool special on Tuesdays, where you can try any quality and strain of marijuana flowers for the price of their “regular shelf” bud. Typically, the higher quality the bud, the more expensive per gram will it be, so this deal gives you a great chance to try some of the choicest buds from some of the most potent marijuana grown in Colorado. I guess that’s why they call it “Try it Tuesday”! Be aware that for out of state travelers, there is a ounce purchase limit on marijuana.

Denver Dispensary Coupons for Drinks and Edibles

Many tourists to Denver who come here for the weed are dismayed to find that it’s often difficult to find a place to actually blaze up all that wonderful weed. That’s why edibles and thc-infused drinks have become extremely popular for Denver marijuana tourists and others who want to get high without causing a scene. Edibles and thc-infused drinks are discreet. No one needs to know what you’re eating or drinking, so as long as you’re not too obvious about it, edibles are easy to get away with, wherever you are. Keef Cola THC-infused drinks are among the bestselling marijuana drinks, and you can get them on sale right now at Golden Meds Leetsdale. With the Keef Cola coupon deal on CannaSaver, four bottles of this deliciously potent beverage will cost you only $20. There’s also a great Denver summer deal for 20% off Sweet Grass edibles at RiverRock North and RiverRock South dispensaries. If you’re not sure what to try, go for some Binski Olive Oil. Infused with marijuana extracts, this edible oil can be added to any food such as salads or pastas. There’s a coupon on CannaSaver right now for a BOGO deal on Binski at Mighty Tree dispensary. Mighty Tree is a recreational dispensary in the Overland neighborhood near the University of Denver.

More Denver Dispensary Deals and Coupons for Tourists

There are hundreds more Denver dispensary coupons and deals on CannaSaver that are useful for Colorado budget travelers, and new coupons are added daily. Whether you want to save money on marijuana, concentrates like wax and shatter, edibles, or a fancy handblown glass pipe or bong that you can actually take back home with you, you’re sure to find a coupon for it on CannaSaver. Remember that CBD doesn’t get you high, and that THC does. Remember also to bring a valid photo i.d. card to the dispensary, because you’ll be asked to show it multiple times while you shop. Other than that and getting the coupons on CannaSaver, there’s nothing much more you need to know. Have a great time in Denver, and happy savings!
