Hey duders, you mind if I bum a smake? Even if I can’t get a whole joint, I’d be happy to just smake all your roaches. I don’t deserve good bud. I’m a hack, a novice, a grade-A moron. I just lost like $420 in a matter of hours. How? On Dogecoin! And right before I was about to go spend the money wisely, on something more long-term like a satchel! Good gravy. This is shaping up to be the worst 420 ever since, like, that one year that we all had to start living indoors.

I hate to beg, but what am I supposed to to do? Last night on 420’s Eve, I got ripped right as the clock struck midnight, and then I was like, that’s it, I’m gonna YOLO the rest of my security deposit on this Dogecoin, because, like, I just wanted to be a millionaire. Quick million bucks! That, and it was right at 42 cents. Deja vu, right? It felt familiar. So I bought a ton, thinking, I’d wake up this morning and be like, driving around in a Rolls Royce on the way to work.

Man it sucked to wake up. The price was just putzin’ around. I was like, “Hello, corporate marketing just fudged up the first meme hive jackpot,” and couldn’t help but slump around all morning waiting for life signs on my stupid app. I even brought the phone into the stupid shower. By mid-morning I’d lost enough dough for a huge satchel, and by the afternoon, it was way down, at just the moment I wanted to go pickup my smake for the holiday! The spite was real, you wouldn’t believe it. $420 down by 4:20, right down the drain!

I thought I was going to be ordering like, burritos for the whole apartment building today. I was gonna go out and buy one of those waffle makers they have at hotels, that like, flips over, and I was going to make a foot-tall belgian waffle tower with strawberries and like, ten cans of whipped cream. I was going to sit around in a new Hefner bathrobe sipping Jim Beam while they installed my new living room hot tub! I was gonna turn my apartment into Graceland!

But no! Now it’s gonna be a rough month. No more kind bud for me. I’m gonna be smaking steems guys, scraping resin. In fact that reminds me, you guys got any old pieces layin’ around? I’ll take ‘em home and scrape ‘em and clean ‘em right up, pro bono! I brought my backpack and some bubble wrap to take home whatever rotten, danky old bongs and spoons you have. I’m not too proud to smake resin for a month, and knowing me it’ll only take a week to churn through even your blackest, foulest pieces.

You know what? It might not be over for me. Maybe if everybody pitches in and buys like, a couple thousand bucks of Doge right now, we can still make me millionaire. I don’t see why anyone shouldn’t be completely down with that plan. I totally promise if we do that, guys, it’s stuffed crust pizza for everyone. I’m buying. Just please don’t make me go through 420, smaking only the crust off my grinder. Stupid Doge.

Sizes and Prices of Weed

Posted by CANNASaver on Tuesday, 20 April 2021 in Canna Blog

Been a while since you’ve bought any bud? Maybe you’re new to the marijuana world or maybe you’ve been smoking straight concentrates for a while.

Either way, it’s helpful to know exactly what you’re looking for when you head to the dispensary.

There’s a lot more math involved with buying marijuana than there is with other products. You know exactly how many beers are in a six-pack or eggs are in a carton. You should also know exactly how much weed you’re getting when you purchase.

Traditionally, weed is measured in terms of ounces.

The most common weights you can purchase weed at are:

·         Gram

·         ⅛ (eighth)

·         ¼ (quarter ounce)

·         ½ (half-ounce)

·         Full ounce

Obviously, how long each will last is completely dependent on how often you smoke. If you don’t smoke very much, it doesn’t make much sense to buy an ounce – regardless of it being a better deal per gram.

Buying in bulk is generally always going to get you the best deal – but it doesn’t matter if the weed goes to waste. Marijuana can even go bad if left unused and stored incorrectly for too long.

While it’s firstly most important to know your smoking habits before purchasing flower, it’s also important to have some general knowledge of the sizes and prices of weed.

Gram – 1g

A gram is generally the smallest amount of flower you can buy. Remember dime bags? Depending on where you’re from and how expensive weed was there, a gram of marijuana typically cost $10. That obviously varied with quality – but the general rule of thumb was that $10 bought you a gram.

The price has stayed relatively the same since, but it does vary from dispensary to dispensary and strain to strain. Typically you’ll be paying between $6-$20 for a gram – the better quality the flower the higher the price.

A gram will usually pack about a joint or two, depending on how fat you roll them. A dispensary typically offers gram or half-gram pre-rolls – so a gram gets you roughly that.

This is going to be where you’re paying the most for your weed. It is cheap, but from a price-per-gram perspective, it’s the most expensive. It’s not until you start buying in bulk that this becomes apparent.

⅛ Eighth – 3.5g

An eighth is going to be where you see that buying in bulk can save you money. Typically an eighth can cost anywhere from $25-$60, but that can vary based on quality of the bud. Some dispensaries will even sell four-gram eighths to promote purchasing bulkier amounts.

When comparing a gram vs. an eighth, it will almost always be cheaper to buy an eighth than three and a half individual grams

Typically an eighth will give you about four to seven joints worth of weed – again, dependent completely on how much you pack. Bowl packs depend specifically on size of the bowl and how full you pack those as well.

An eighth is good for those who smoke a little bit more than occasionally, but still not too often. How long it lasts depends entirely on you – but it’s safe to say that if you smoke more often, then bigger quantities are for you.

¼ Quarter – 7g

A quarter-ounce is for people who smoke more often. At seven grams, it’s double the size of an eighth, but not double the price. It’s cheaper to buy one quarter than two separate eighths.

Typically you’ll get about twelve to sixteen joints out of a quarter – dependent on you again. A quarter is usually going to run you somewhere between $40-$80 but can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the quality of the bud.

A quarter is good for frequent smokers, as it lasts twice as long as an eighth and has a good price point. It’s a good point between a small purchase and a larger, bulkier purchase.

½ Half-Ounce – 14g

Also known as half a zip, a half-ounce is a more serious purchase than the others. This is for a pretty serious smoker. Weighing in at fourteen grams, a half-ounce is for those who don’t want to be running out any time soon.

You’ll get – obviously – double the amount of weed you get from a quarter. So, think somewhere around two dozen joints in a half-ounce. It’ll cost you a bit more money, but this is really where buying in bulk saves in the long run.

Generally, a half-ounce will cost somewhere between $100-$120, much cheaper than buying two quarters or four eighths. Obviously, prices can get much higher or lower depending on quality.

Full Ounce – 28g

In most legal states, this is the largest amount of weed you can buy at any one time. An ounce is for the serious smoker, who doesn’t miss a day and doesn’t like being low.

For a general idea on size, it’s the legal limit a person can own in Colorado. This is because of the amount – an ounce is large enough that any bigger and people will think you have intent to distribute.

An ounce is a full 28 grams – should give you somewhere near 100 joints. Depends entirely on the quality of the weed, but the price range is generally somewhere between $150-$220. Look for prices even higher than that when dealing with high-quality stuff.

Quarter-Pound – 112g

The quarter-pound is a pretty rare size of marijuana. Four times the amount of an ounce, it’s still illegal to have this much weed on your person in Colorado.

It’s hard to find anywhere to pick up a quarter-pound – but if you do, it’s going to be expensive. A quarter-pound is going to cost you somewhere around $800, but can easily be more or less depending on where you’re getting it from.

This amount of for a very serious smoker – and even then, it will take a while to go through.

Now that we’ve taken care of sizes and you know what you’re looking for, head into the dispensary and buy the perfect size for you. Check out our homepage first to make sure you’re not missing out on any killer deals.

What 420 Friendly Means

Posted by CANNASaver on Thursday, 15 April 2021 in Canna Blog

You may not realize it, but next week there is a stoner holiday.

On April 20th every year, marijuana lovers around the world gather to celebrate the beautiful, majestic cannabis plant in their favorite ways.

You may have heard the term used in many different ways, but whether it connotes a time of day, a day of the year, or an entire lifestyle for you, 420 is what binds the cannabis community together.

The story of the roots of 420 friendliness in the United States, much like many things involving cannabis, is pretty hazy (get it?). However, there are some commonly believed theories that can help us understand what the term 420 means in a historical context.

If you are not familiar with the term “420” as it is used in the marijuana culture, here’s a look at its origins and its meaning. Before examining the type of 420 friendly services available across America, let’s briefly discuss where the term 420 came from, the history behind it and why it is embedded in America Culture.

What 420 Means

If you’re passing the pipe of that sweet Mary Jane, 420 is all you’ve got to say to let people know that you partake as well. The term "420" was first associated with marijuana use in 1971 and has been very much used since.

With marijuana being illegal, consumers had to partake in secret, shop in dark alleys, and speak in code. Though it originally spread as an internal clock for a single group of smokers, the term now refers to the ongoing fight for nationwide legalization and the spread of accessible information within both the medical and recreational communities.

Today, the term 420 and references to marijuana are all over the social media, games, music, and websites that people are using every day.

Origin Story of 420

Cannabis is a plant of many names: weed, ganja, marijuana, kush, etc. In today’s legalization of marijuana in Colorado, we can call cannabis whatever we would like without the worry of police interference. But things were not always so rosy.

In the early 1970s, weed was still highly illegal. The term 420 originated with a group of high school kids at San Rafael High School in California. The group who called themselves “The Waldos” started using 4:20 as the time of day they would meet to go seek out a secret stash they would leave in various places. Rather than announce they were going to get high, they used the code 420.

The ritual spread, and soon 420 became code for smoking marijuana. Eventually, 420 was converted into 4/20 for calendar purposes, and the day of celebration was born.

What Being 420 Friendly Means

You will ultimately need to ask the person if they themselves smoke, though it is usually implied that they do if they have this in their profile.

Since its origins back in the 70s, 420 has stuck as a pretense for cannabis culture. 4:20 is the hour to partake, and April 20th has become the international stoner holiday to celebrate cannabis culture and progress. The term 420 and its usefulness as a discrete codeword lives on today, particularly on different sites. How will you know if your future girlfriend, roommate, or houseguest is down to smoke? Drop a 420 friendly in there.

The term 420 friendly essentially means that the person smokes marijuana or is open to smoking it. This term can also mean that the person doesn’t smoke themselves, but they are okay with those who do.

420 friendly is seen quite often with advertisements for housemates, tenants, or dating apps. It simply means that the person or place is accepting of people who smoke weed and probably do it themselves.

In the past, 420 friendly has meant that a business or hotel won’t call the police on you if you spark up. However, given the shaky legal status of pot in the past, the term was only as reliable as the person in charge of wherever you were staying.

That said, with the rapidly changing weed laws that are currently rocking the country the definition of what is 420 friendly is changing pretty rapidly. Now the possibility of finding places with actual legal policies in place to ensure that you are able to smoke undisturbed.

Why is Colorado Known for Being 420 Friendly?

People have always used pot to socialize throughout the centuries. With marijuana legalization popping up everywhere, stoners around the country now have lots of options when it comes to herbal socializing (though slowed due to COVID).

Being the first to blaze the trail, Colorado is well known for being 420 friendly. Colorado was afterall one of the first states to legalize. Safe to assume we have some cannabis consumers in this state. Also, Colorado is slowly unveiling pot coffee shops, smoking lounges, and hotels coming in the future.

Colorado is very 420 friendly.

420 Friendly Colorado

Posted by CANNASaver on Wednesday, 14 April 2021 in Canna Blog - Latest News

April is here and weed lovers everywhere are getting ready for 420, which is arguably every stoner's favorite time of day, and/or year.

The phrase “420” has become synonymous with cannabis culture and with marijuana users all over the world. Cannabis enthusiasts usually like to smoke at the time of 4:20 or they use the term to refer to April 20th, the time of year cannabis-centered events and celebrations take place globally. April 20th is also known as “marijuana’s biggest holiday.”

420 is celebrated all over the world, but it is especially loved here in Colorado. With 420 just around the corner, locals and visitors are getting ready to celebrate marijuana for all its euphoric and therapeutic properties.

It’s important to note current health and social distancing protocols, as 420 celebrations might look a little different this year. Remember to be mindful of your surroundings and the safety protocols that are set in place, so everyone can have a safe 420.

Colorado, The 420 Epicenter

When thinking about 420-friendly places, you can’t help automatically think about Colorado. The state, being the first in America to legalize medical and recreational cannabis, is one of the largest cannabis hubs in the country, making it a great place for marijuana tourism and 420 events.

Colorado has been the home base for 420 celebrations and activities since 2014. Every April you’ll find numerous events that cater specifically to the cannabis community. This year, cannabis lovers are forced to celebrate a little differently but you can still expect there to be celebrations all over the state and in Denver.

In pre-pandemic times, dozens of festivals and major events take place in Denver and all over Colorado. The Mile High 420 Festival is one of the most popular and brings approximately 50,000 people to Civic Center Park. The festival includes vendors, music, and entertainment. Big-name artists like Lil Jon and Jermain Dupri have even made appearances. The festival is gearing up to return in 2022.

420 is not just limited to festivals, there is an endless list of cannabis cantered activities to partake in. Denver and Colorado are home to over 500 types of dispensaries and grow-ops.

Additionally, cannabis-centered tours are a great way to immerse yourself in all things cannabis, you can even learn more about your favorite strains and how they’re grown and cultivated while offering a safe and socially distanced experience.

What Does 420-Friendly Mean?

Generally, if a place or business is 420-friendly - it means that the person or place is accepting of marijuana users. It’s important to distinguish 420-friendly spots in Colorado from others because there’s still a slight taboo around marijuana consumption, so it’s best to be mindful of the places and people you encounter and the rules surrounding marijuana.

With progressive marijuana laws continuing to roll out, 420-friendly places are emerging all over the state and country - allowing cannabis users to consume their beloved plant with minimal discretion.

If you are someone with a medical marijuana card, the circumstances are a little different. It’s important to check in with your hotel or accommodation to see if they can provide you with a smoking room or a designated smoking area.

420-Friendly Accommodations in Colorado

In Colorado, marijuana laws allow hotels and private rental properties such as Airbnbs to individually decide if guests are allowed to consume marijuana on the property.

Many chain hotels are smoke-free, which means any type of smoking, whether tobacco or marijuana. Additionally, smoking/vaping cannabis is not permitted anywhere smoking is banned.

If you find a smoke-friendly hotel, they can accommodate your smoking needs with designated smoking areas or outdoor amenities such as patios and balconies.

Bud and Breakfasts is another option for those looking for 420-friendly accommodations. These are safe and legal accommodations for travelers who also happen to enjoy marijuana and want to do so openly on their trip. Some 420-friendly bnb’s even offering activities centered around cannabis, such as paint nights or cooking with cannabis classes.

Other accommodations allow you to smoke openly with minimal discretion like 420-friendly hotels. These accommodations allow visitors to consume marijuana openly..

If you want to smoke and be more discreet, it’s recommended to stick to vaping as they produce less odor than smoking from a joint, pipe, or bong.

420 Must Go On in Colorado

Despite roadblocks caused by COVID-19 this year and last, stoners all over the world are going to find their ways of celebrating. In Colorado, the options of activities and events to choose from are far from limited for both locals and visitors alike.

Maybe there's not much sharing of joints, pipes, etc, but no pandemic is stopping cannabis lovers all over the country from lighting up in celebration of the beloved plant.

Don’t forget to check out our latest deals on Cannasaver.

Happy 420!

Colorado Moon Rocks

Posted by CANNASaver on Wednesday, 14 April 2021 in Canna Blog

Looking to blast off into outer space and bounce on the moon with the ultimate weed high? Well, if you're not Elon Musk, you're probably wondering how you can space travel. The ticket to ride: Moon rocks.

Moon rocks are some of the most expensive marijuana products that you’ll find on your dispensary menu. It is like the caviar of weed. They are considered one of the most potent ways to smoke marijuana out there.

But what are they exactly?

What are Moon Rocks?

Moon rocks originate from rapper Kurupt bringing them to fruition in 2014. The name comes from the way this particular brand of cannabis actually looks; like moon rocks.

Moon rocks are not a type of marijuana strain, but more of a cannabis experiment gone oh, so well. Moon rocks in Colorado (as well as anywhere else, for that matter) are made up of different cannabis products rolled into one very potent product admired and very desired for smoking.

They are premium marijuana buds, around a quarter width in size, that get dipped in hash oil, rosin, or live resin.

Moon rocks are then finished by rolling concentrate dipped, premium bud in beautiful golden kief.

Simply put, moon rocks are one big nugget covered in concentrate upon concentrate. Because of this, moon rocks can contain more than 50% THC.

What Exactly is in Moon Rocks?

If you’re breaking apart a moon rock for the first time, it’s a lot like being a kid eating the perfect ice cream cone. Beginning with the most important, a premium base.

Premium Cannabis

The first and arguably most important ingredient used in moon rock production is premium, top-shelf cannabis. Moon Rocks are produced using any of the hundreds of premium strains out there.

A high concentration of trichomes often shows a particular marijuana strain with advanced cannabinoid production over other strains. High potency and terpene production tend to follow these strains. The color of these buds is incredibly vibrant and every cannabis strain is unique in its own terpene profile.

But what ice cream cone is any good without some syrupy drizzle??

Concentrate

Cannabis concentrates are oils that are derived from the cannabis plant. Cannabis concentrates often hit between 60-80% in THC potency. Concentrates maintain terpenes from the marijuana plant thus adding to the overall cannabinoids being absorbed, natural taste involved, and controlling your overall high.

Then, to top everything off, a nice cherry on top.

Kief

Kief is that precious goodness collecting in the bottom of your weed grinder. Dried buds are rubbed over a screen to separate the trichomes. Back and forth, this turns surrounding trichomes into a pile of THC crystals or kief.

Kief has much higher levels of THC than you find in regular buds. It can have around 50% THC making it about twice as strong as a regular flower.

This beautiful concoction of kief, concentrate, and premium cannabis leads to high THC potencies between 50-90%.

Fly Me to the Moon, Already!

OG marijuana buds can be hit from a bong, or added to a pipe, vaporized, or even smoked out of an apple. But when it comes to consuming these delicious moon rocks, things get trickier and quite a bit stickier.

Attempting to roll up a joint of moon rocks just doesn’t really work all too well.

Moon rocks are made up of an assembly of different marijuana ingredients, the rocks have to be consumed differently than your ordinary buds. The wet/stickiness of the moon rocks caused by added kief and oils make the buds hard to light and to, therefore, smoke those delightful rocks.

Short Guide To Smoking Moon Rocks

  • Hand-break moon rocks, don’t grind: It can be difficult to grind up moon rocks due to their juicy coating of concentrate. It will completely gunk up your grinder and likely remove most of the moon rock's kief. Instead, break them up slowly with your fingers or cut off small pieces with scissors.

  • Glass Pieces: Pipes and bongs are the best way to smoke moon rocks without creating a huge mess. Lightly pack bowls of moon rocks into your favorite glass piece to ensure you lose as little of the moon rock ingredients as possible.

  • Use a hemp wick: The consistency of moon rocks makes holding a flame to your bowl needed for longer than one would typically hold for a regular bowl of MJ. Hemp wick will save you from potentially tasting way too much butane from a lighter and burning your fingers.

  • And finally: you should avoid rolling moon rock joints or blunts. Moon rocks are far too sticky to be rollable or anywhere near smokeable. Also, don’t pack bowls of moon rocks too tight. Too tight and the bowl will be incredibly difficult to light.

What Are the Effects of Moon Rocks?

Moon rocks are POTENT cannabis products. These are for people who have indulged in high-quality THC products. Since moon rocks contain much higher levels of THC, effects are stronger than regular cannabis products.

Effects intensify depending on some factors including the strain used in the rocks and your personal tolerance. Someone who’s not used to high THC cannabis tends to have more intense effects. Some of the common effects of moon rocks are:

  • Increased heart rate
  • Anxiety
  • Sleepiness
  • Impaired memory
  • Cough
  • More, non-life-threatening effects, like red/dry eyes, dry mouth, etc.

Get Free Weed

Posted by CANNASaver on Tuesday, 13 April 2021 in Canna Blog

Everybody (well, a lot of people, at least) loves smoking weed. Not everyone loves the price point. Typical weed prices at a dispensary can get pretty high. Being a pothead can be expensive, so anytime you can save some money, it’s worth it.

Getting free weed can sometimes be as simple as having a friend who will smoke you up. But mooching off of your friend isn’t really what this article is about. Getting free weed isn’t always easy. But if you look in the right places, sometimes you’ll find ways to ‘cheat the system’ and grab some free ganja.

Here are some of the easiest ways, or "hacks" if you will, to get free weed and avoid the high weed prices in Colorado.

First Time Deals

So, yeah, if you’re reading an article about how to get free weed, then you’ve probably already been to the dispensary – but this doesn’t mean this trick still won’t work. Some local dispensaries will have deals for first-time customers. So consider trying out a dispensary you haven’t been to before to check for first-timer deals.

Membership & Reward Programs

Dispensaries will often offer first-time customers some good deals – but what about their loyal customers? Most dispensaries will have some sort of loyalty program for returning customers. It can be as simple as a card that gets hole-punched with every purchase or a much more elaborate system like an app or online tracking. Ask your budtender at your favorite dispensary about any reward or loyalty programs offered.

Daily Weed Deals

Dispensaries aren’t unlike any other businesses – deals and sales are good for business and customer loyalty. Some dispensaries will have daily weed deals (for instance, Rocky Mountain High in Denver has a good Sunday deal) that you should be taking advantage of.

Search around our website for the newest weed deals before you head in – maybe tomorrow there’s a better deal on exactly what you were looking for.

Weed Coupon Websites

Essentially Groupon for marijuana, sites like Cannasaver will help you find deals on weed. It might take some searching, but you can find some killer deals that can help maximize your trip to the dispensary. Cannasaver is localized in Colorado, so our website can help you avoid the high weed prices in Denver or anywhere else in Colorado.

Research Studies on Weed

These are a little more few and far between – but not impossible to find. Marijuana is a fascinating plant with a multitude of psychoactive and health effects. As it’s been illegal until fairly recently, it’s gone relatively unstudied by modern science. Sometimes universities or other research groups will have marijuana-related studies and will offer volunteers some free weed in exchange for participation – sometimes you even get paid. Do some research of your own online to see if there are any studies near you.

Weed Giveaways

Rare as well, weed giveaways are like stoner Christmas. Maybe it’s a new store opening, or a celebration, etc. – check on social media and Google for any giveaways that are happening near you.

They are more likely to be around on holidays – specifically 4/20

Grow Your Own Weed

This may sound like a difficult solution, but a well-kept marijuana plant will pay for itself. There are tons of resources online to help you through the growing process, as well as how to make it ready to smoke. You can buy seeds at dispensaries (the current deal in Capitol Hill) and then grow weed in the comfort of your own home. Can’t get more free than nature.

Celebrate 4/20

One of the best chances you’ll have at getting free bud is doing some weed shopping on a weed holiday. Try out a couple of different dispensaries – most likely they’ll all be doing some sort of promotion for 4/20. Look on Cannasaver to see if there are any upcoming 4/20 deals near you.

The Best Way to Save Money

Opportunities to get truly free weed are scarce – after all, it’s a popular product sold by a business trying to make money – free doesn’t jive with that.

The best way to lower your expenses when buying weed is to look for the best deals. A Buy One, Get One deal still requires you to pay money, but the ‘Get One’ part of it is essentially free weed. Always check sites like Cannasaver before you head into the dispensary – you don’t want to be spending more money than you need to.

It’s hard to consider deals as free. But depending on how you look at it, a 50% off deal is essentially like getting 50% of your weed for free.

Check out some of these deals to make the most of your money when weed shopping:

·         Pure Marijuana Dispensary has locations across Colorado. Every Wednesday the entire store is Buy One, Get One 50% off. Cash in using this coupon.

·         At Herban Underground you can grab one Cousin Eddie’s Baked Goods (either cookies or brownies) and get another one free.

·         Rocky Mountain High Dispensary in Stapleton has a Munchie Monday deal – Buy One, Get One 50% off their selection of high-end edibles.

·         For medical cardholders – you can get a flower ounce for $100 OTD when you pay full price for the first ounce at Altitude Organic Medicine in Colorado Springs.

·         At Trenchtown Cannabis in Denver all vape cartridges are Buy One, Get One 50% off with this coupon.

The Reality of Getting Free Weed

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a reliable, consistent way to get free weed – that’s if you find a way to get any at all. Marijuana is such a popular substance that finding it for free is likely never going to be easy. Using the tips and tricks mentioned above will help you – but there are no guarantees.

If you’re looking for free weed, then your end goal is likely to save money. Your best bet to lower your weed expenses is by finding the best deals. It’s not free – but it will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Think if you could be Buy One, Get One deals every time you visited the dispensary – that money you saved will start to add up.

Always make sure to find the best deal – use Cannasaver to keep your wallet full.

Homemade 'Weetos'

Posted by CANNASaver on Monday, 12 April 2021 in Recipes by Cousin D

Cheebo? Cheefo? You decide. Here is a somewhat easy recipe to make something that tastes a little like a homemade Cheeto, but dank and garlicky. We  couldn't decide on the best name! Weeto? This savory snack is easy to dose and scale, and even divide into gift bags for fellow home-bound friends.

Ingredients:
Dough
2 sticks butter infused with 1000mg THC
2 tsp salt
2 tap garlic powder (heaping)
2 cups blue corn meal or regular
2 cups potato flakes
4 cups flour
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups water as needed
1 cup oil of choice

Coating
8 tbsp cheese powder (heaping)
4 tbsp buttermilk powder (heaping)
4 tbsp corn starch (heaping)
4 tsp salt (heaping)

Directions:
Let your canna-butter soften a bit. In a food processor combine butter, salt and garlic powder with corn meal until mixed. Add in the cheese to make a dough. Dump into a mixing bowl. With your hands, work in the tater flakes and then flour. Finally, mix in the oil. Take the water you've set aside and add as needed to make a wet, workable yet not sticky, dough. Roll out the dought between parchment paper and cut to size, into 2-3" strips.

Fry the pieces at 375 in your choice of frying oil for 3 min, and set aside to drain and completely cool.

Now onto the coating. As for the cheese powder, if you can’t find any, just use packets from cheap Mac 'n Cheese and stash away the noodles for another day. Combine coating ingredients in a large bowl. Take note: I had ghost pepper salt to make mine extra hot n' spicy, but any will do. Cover the bowl and shake the coating onto the fried sticks. Use a colander to shake off the excess and reuse as you go along.

By the end you’ll find yourself with enough for a huge party (for when this all blows over)--or stash them away and get high every snack hour for the next two months. Your call--Bon Appetit!

Rick Simpson Oil Colorado

Posted by CANNASaver on Tuesday, 06 April 2021 in CBD

Rick Simpson Oil is something I’m very thankful for in the cannabis industry. The miracle oil gave my little brother some of the best relief and quality of life in his struggle with brain cancer. But my brother isn’t the only one. I have seen hundreds of people being healed up the power of RSO. But for those new to the terminology, what is RSO?

What is Rick Simpson Oil?

The beauty that is Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is a full extract cannabis oil meant to be taken orally or applied topically. RSO is a marijuana extract made utilizing a solvent to extract cannabinoids. RSO has high levels of THC with a fine medley of other cannabinoids. The most common solvent used in making RSO is grain alcohol. No prohibition coming with this stuff

Seriously though, this stuff helped my brother live with a better quality of life as he was dying of cancer. I’m a fan.

Cannabis material is placed in a large container with alcohol then added after. The mixture is stirred and crushed into the alcohol until the liquid is nice and green. After a little time, alcohol is drained from the remaining plant mixture. That mixture will then be heated in a container and the residual alcohol will evaporate.

High potency oil, often dark in color and a thick deep green consistency, is the ultimate result of the process and can be siphoned into a syringe-style applicator for dosing. When buying, consumers of RSO should use indica cannabis strains to intake the oil for maximum healing. Indica strains are well-known for their subdued, relaxed highs which is a fundamental key to assist in healing.

How RSO Got Its Name

Rick Simpson was born in the pot nation known as Canada. In 2003, he was diagnosed with skin cancer. Doctors weren’t prescribing him medicines “made from marijuana” known to help with cancer.

Rick Simpson decided to make his own, despite legality at the time. In the past, he had used cannabis to treat medical issues, so he made a cannabis oil to treat his skin cancer topically.

He decided to attempt treating his cancer with full extract cannabis oil by applying it directly to the area affected with skin cancer and giving it a good bandage dressing. Simpson grabbed this idea after reading studies from the National Cancer Institute, which THC had been found to kill cancer cells in mice.

After several days, the bandages were removed, and found the affected area of his body had cleared right up.

Even with Simpson’s cancerous growths disappearing completely, his doctor still refused to acknowledge cannabis as a treatment alternative. Boo!

After his recovery, Simpson began to produce the full extract cannabis oil for those who were/are in need. This brought popularity to Simpson and the extract and thus full extract oil became known as Rick Simpson Oil.

How to Get Incredible Benefits From Rick Simpson Oil

There is a method that the man himself suggests when using an RSO regimen.

The goal is to consume 60 grams of RSO over the course of 90 days.

  • Week 1: Start with three doses every day

  • Weeks 2 through 5: Double your dose every four days

  • Weeks 5 through 12: Take one gram of RSO daily until you’ve consumed the full 60 grams

In the first week, three doses should be taken each day, once in the morning, afternoon, and night. RSO is very potent. The beginning dose should be the size of half a grain of rice. After the first week, the measured dose should be doubled every four days. It will take approximately three to five weeks before the dosage reaches a full gram of RSO in a day.

Continue to take a full gram in a day until the full 60 grams are consumed. The most common side effects when undertaking an RSO regimen are excessive tiredness and/or psychoactivity. Over time, the body will adjust to the higher dose of RSO; this typically takes three to four weeks.

Dosing RSO For Max Effectiveness

Thankfully, RSO is an activated formulation, meaning no heat needs to be applied to the product when consuming it. Because of this, patients have many options on how to administer it.

When taken effectively, Rick Simpson Oil has been known to treat medical conditions such as:

  • Cancer

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Arthritis

  • Asthma

  • Chronic Pain

  • Inflammation

  • Depression

  • Insomnia

  • High Blood Pressure

Each dose should be about the size of half a grain of rice and should be administered once every eight hours (morning, noon, and night); the first dose will be about ¼ drop of RSO. I hope I don’t have to say this but I probably do, don’t be a badass!

My brother, both a major stoner and dealing with major pain from awful brain cancer, sometimes couldn’t handle feeling the potent high. Start low and build to it.

RSO has an incredibly robust and bitter taste that can be a little too clingy on the ol' throat. I always suggest taking it with a tasty treat high in fats of your absolute choosing. My brother was a big stoner and still couldn’t stand the taste every single day. Don’t be brave.

Foods such as peanut butter or yogurt mask its bitter taste and increase THC absorption throughout your body.

Where to Find Rick Simpson Oil in Colorado

Kind Meds is located off Santa Fe in Denver

Current deals on RSO include:

But if you or anyone you know are hurting and can't find RSO available near you, it is incredibly easy to make at home. And perhaps we’ll be able to break it down for you soon.

Check out Cannasaver for the buds to get you started on your healing path. And for real guys, if you or anyone you know needs good knowledge on a better way to relieve what ails, RSO is the way to go.

Shake Deals Denver

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 02 April 2021 in Canna Blog

My canna-friends, you know how I like to keep you in the know, right? So what do I want you to know about this time? A grand little present known as "shake." If you know, then you know. But for those who think I sound like a stoner stereotype, hear me out: while shake usually gets a bad rap, as the quality of weed is better these days, so is the shake...and there really are some good-quality shake deals in the Denver area that you should know about.

What is Shake?

It can vary in definition from person to person, but shake can be an extremely cost-efficient alternative to whole bud marijuana flower for those who like to consume marijuana in larger quantities or for those who go through their stashes fast.

By definition, marijuana shake describes the small pieces of flower left at the bottom of a storage device. These leftovers come from larger cannabis nugs. Shake typically forms when bumped or “shaken” around during transportation or harvesting. It does tend to dry out fast, so keep that in mind.

Dispensaries tend to sell these leftovers at a lower price than the flower it was shaken from because their effects and potency are often pretty unknown.

Shake is Definitely Not Trim

Trim is what gets removed from cannabis buds after harvest. Trim often contains much more sugar leaves and stems than shake.

Trim is typically used in making concentrates and not much else.

If smoked on its own, trim will most likely not get you high.

Shake’s Bad Reputation

Shake has been looked down upon in the past as being an inferior quality to actual, intact cannabis flower buds. This often comes with people who probably bought trim thinking it was shake, most likely weak or not having any effect.

Shake that comes from a strain with a larger concentration of trichomes can be just as good as the original bud.

That shake sitting in a dispensary jar, then rolling around in tasty trichomes adds a lot of flavor and potency.

Unfortunately, trichomes are fragile and are not always found in high concentrates. In this case, the quality of this kind of shake may be lower quality than those with larger amounts of trichomes present.

When looking for quality cannabis shake, look for cannabis shake that still has a decent amount of shiny trichomes present.

How You SHOULD Look at Shake

In the past, shake was just a random ratio of leaves, stems, and maybe some buds. I imagine most people think that this gross assortment of marijuana turns anyone off of buying shake. But rejoice, for it is 2021, and recreational/medical weed is the best it's probably ever been!

Sweet Mary Jane only continues to grow (pun absolutely intended) in potency and availability as the country continues to legalize. This being the case, marijuana shake can only get better as well.

Some dispensaries even use the term “shake” to actually describe popcorn (fully-formed, but small) buds.

Here are 3 popular ways shake is used:

  • Edibles and tinctures: Use shake with any edible or tincture recipe instead of wasting full buds. You gather cannabinoids from about any form of cannabis. So for edibles, prioritizing quality in the ingredients you’re combining with the shake is more important. This makes edibles or tinctures a great way to use up your lower-quality shake.

  • Pre-rolls/Joints: Using shake for joints is a common practice for dispensaries. Some cannabis consumers will tell you they prefer the mellow and toned-down high that shake provides. Shake joints/pre-rolls are a good solution for those who experience negative effects from high potency buds though this isn’t always the case.

  • Blunts: These XXL joints take a lot of Mary Jane to fill up. Shake is a wonderful solution for the "bluntists" out there. Mix these with premium flower, hash and/or kief for extra mindful delights.

Shoot, I bought shake just the other day during one of my own dispensaries runs. The shake was from a platinum shelf bud at half the cost. Though, do look at it first. Some batches of shake are far better than others.

Some Last Cautions When Buying Shake

  • Buying shake can be a literal mixed bag of different cannabis strains and following high from a particular batch of shake isn't always going to be consistent. Shake also dries out quickly, so you'll want to smoke it fast.

  • Some dispensaries carry cannabis shake in tightly packed jars for weeks. Make sure you check that the shake isn’t too moist. This can make marijuana a perfect breeding ground for mold. No one should smoke mold.

  • Medical marijuana patients should try to steer clear of shake. Medical patients often do require consistent doses and results of quality accurate potency flower. With shake, neither is guaranteed.

In the end, it's up to your personal cannabis budget and preferences.

Due to its ever-growing popularity, finding consistent deals on premium shake can often be tricky, even in Denver.

With so many different shake deals around Denver, Cannasaver will help you find the best deals. With great shake comes great responsibility and Cannasaver has found some of the best flowers around the Denver area.

Best Edibles In Denver

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 26 March 2021 in Canna Blog

There are a few good reasons you’re probably looking for the best edibles in Denver. For whichever reason that is, we don’t blame you. Edibles are tasty, they’re a healthier way of getting high, they don’t smell like weed (as potent as bud), and they’re efficient

So, whether you’re only visiting Colorado for a small period of time, or you’re a local and just new to the edibles world, here are some of the best edibles and THC-infused beverages that Denver has to offer. Just remember to use marijuana edibles and beverages in moderation and follow recommended dosing instructions and guidelines, as they could take a while to kick in.

Best Marijuana Edibles in Denver

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with almost any edible, and everyone has their own preference on taste, consistency, etc. That being said, there’s a reason you’ll find certain edibles at almost any dispensary in Denver (or Colorado, in general).

Wana (Brands)

Wana Brands is one of the better-known brands when it comes to edibles. In Colorado, they have a good variety of products, including:

  • Fast-acting gummies (4 varieties and flavors)

  • Quick tinctures (2 varieties, a 1:1 CBD/THC and a 10:1 CBD/THC)

  • Sour gummies (10 different varieties and flavors)

  • Tart candies (3 different varieties and flavors)

  • CBD-only gummies ( 12 different varieties and flavors)

What we love about these edibles is that they taste great, they have the traditional, sugar-sprinkled gummy, and they have a soft, tender consistency. You don’t have to bite down super hard and they’re almost always in stock, because of “high” demand (see what I did there?). You’re likely to find Wana almost everywhere.

Coda (Signature)

Okay, Coda is really starting to catch fire with how awesome their edibles (and tinctures, for that matter) are. Depending on what type of activity you’re looking to do, there is a tasty treat for you. They feature a few different edibles, like:

  • Truffles (made with South American cacao)

  • Gummies (7 different varieties and exotic flavors, like, lychee/cucumber, mango/chile lime, etc.)

  • Chocolate bars (7 different varieties and exotic flavors, like caramel/corn, snap pea/spice, coffee/doughnuts, etc.)

These edibles are vegan-friendly, gluten-free, and naturally and ethically sourced. They’re probably one of the most “exotic” edibles when it comes to taste and flavor. You also have a wide variety of mg THC you can choose from, from 5 mg to 25 mg per package. My mouth is watering just thinking of these edibles.

Wyld

Wyld (Canna) is an edible company that comes from the Pacific Northwest, and really does a good job of representing everything we love about that area of the nation, in its packaging and product. Great branding, made for the active stoner and lifestyle, all-natural, real fruit, perfect for sharing, vibrant colors, ok, we’re done. They have really tasty products, like:

  • Gummies (7 different varieties and flavors)

  • (White) Chocolates (3 different varieties and flavors)

They may seem like any other edible company/product, but what sets them apart is the feeling you get when you eat them. Duh, it’s a high one, but it’s super clean. It feels natural. It feels subtle. It feels right. It feels….WYLD. My personal favorites are the Elderberry THC: CBN ones that have dark, midnight blue packaging. It’s like if you were tucked into bed, read your favorite bedtime story, and kissed on the cheek by your mom or something. Oh, and they are soft and they taste amazing.

1906

1906 is changing the game when it comes to edibles, in the sense that there’s something for everyone, every sort of mood, every sort of variety. It’s in the ingredients that pair with the CBD/THC. Let us explain.

Need help with that essay? There’s an edible for that. Like, specifically. Need help going to sleep? Yep, one for that, too, with the help of corydalis (an herbal ingredient, used in Chinese medicine). Here’s what you can expect to find:

  • Genius - A pill-like edible, with herbal ingredients, caffeine, and THC that help you write like 12 pages for that paper due tomorrow at midnight.

  • Midnight - A chocolate edible, for when you’ve turned in that paper and now you wanna go “night night.”

  • Go - A chocolate edible blend, perfect for getting shit done, out and about, etc. A bit different from “Genius” kinda like that coffee blend you go for when you’re in this mode.

  • Love - Little chocolate candies that are perfect for feeling those sensual, love-enhancing vibes (no, it’s not going to work like Viagra).

  • Chill - A dark chocolate blend of herbal ingredients, CBD, THC, for that time after work, after a long day, to calm yourself (L-theanine, magnolia, etc)

  • Bliss - Going to a social event but not feeling social? This helps promote being bubbly and extroverted. They’re chocolate peanut butter cups with theobromine in them. Blissful.

Happy Chews

Happy Chews seriously are the closest thing I’ve ever gotten to a Starburst-like consistency and flavor. Almost identical, really, only with THC, so maybe actually better. There’s not a ton of variety in products, but they know what they’re doing and they do it right.

  • Taffy - Again, kinda like Starbursts (3 different flavors and varieties)

They’re so tasty, think of like a Laffy Taffy meets Starburst, but then you keep laughing ‘cuz you’re high now. Happy Chews. They come in 100 mg packages.

There are a few other edibles worth mentioning, like Ripple, Blue Kudu (now Curaleaf), Incredibles, and a few of these edible companies include beverages, too, to mix things up. Companies like Wana actually include “mocktails” you can make with tinctures and beverages they provide!

Marijuana Beverages

Marijuana beverages aren't as popular or as well-known as the pot brownie or good ol’ fashioned bong rip, but they're delicious, different, and definitely one of the most unique offerings you'll find at our Denver dispensaries

Marijuana drinks also called cannabis beverages or THC-infused beverages, are cannabis-enhanced drinks that will get you high while quenching your thirst.

Like other varieties of edibles, marijuana beverages are a great choice for marijuana tourists, as they don't smell and you can discreetly enjoy them just about anywhere.

The variety of marijuana drinks is vast, so we've highlighted some of the best cannabis beverages that you'll definitely want to try when you travel to Denver, and don’t forget to check out the marijuana edibles deals on CannaSaver before you hit the dispensary.

Marijuana beverages are one of those must-try 420 novelty items every Denver traveler on a marijuana tour should experience.

There are many brands to choose from, and varieties range from sodas to teas to punches and even coffees.

CannaPunch

One of our favorite brands is CannaPunch, a non-carbonated cannabis-infused beverage that comes in refreshingly fruity flavors like Watermelon Nectar and Juicy Grape.

The punch is made with organic ingredients and is 100% vegan, making it a good choice for the health-conscious Denver 420 traveler.

CannaPunch also makes a product called Mota Energy Citrus Blast, a citrus-flavored, cannabis-infused, caffeine-enriched energy shot that will give you a heavy buzz without weighing you down. There’s also a popular flavor, Black Cherry Fusion, which you can find in our list of edibles.

Many edibles make you drowsy, and these energy shots are a good alternative if you want to get a good high and also stay awake to enjoy it. You can pick up some CannaPunch at many Denver dispensaries.

Dixie Elixirs

Another marijuana beverage line to try is Dixie Elixirs. They offer fruity, fun, THC-infused marijuana beverages in flavors such as Watermelon Cream, Sparkling Pomegranate, Sparkling Blueberry, Peach Iced Tea, and their limited edition Wild Berry Lemonade. Each bottle contains a total of 90 mg THC, with a 5 mg recommended serving size. Dixie Elixirs are great for marijuana tourists and Denver travelers from out of state who aren't experienced with THC-infused beverages. Each bottle features a dosing cap so you can easily measure out the recommended amount without having to do any guesswork. In addition to their fruity soda line, Dixie Elixirs also makes a beverage, especially for coffee-lovers. If you're looking for coffee in Denver and some cannabis to go with it, check out Dixie's Mint Coffee Lift. In addition to THC, coffee, and a touch of mint flavor, Mint Coffee Lift also contains Quercetin, Resveratrol, and D-Ribose, three ingredients reputed to help improve cellular metabolism. MMJ America offers 35% off Dixie Elixirs and all other marijuana beverages every Thursday.

Keef Cola

Colorado-based company Keef Cola makes a wide range of edibles, but it's their sodas that have made them famous among Colorado pot enthusiasts and Denver marijuana tourism travelers alike. Each soda contains 10 mg of THC, and the flavors are named for the cannabis strain with which they are made.

Varieties include:

  • Blue Dream

  • Flo

  • Cherry Bomb

  • Orange Kush

  • Bubba Kush Root Beer

Other Marijuana Edibles to Try

Marijuana beverages are but one of many marijuana edibles products you can find at recreational dispensaries in Denver. There are also chocolates, gummies, pastries, granolas, snack mixes, cookies, candies, mints, and more—and we're just scratching the surface here. We'll cover some of those other edibles in future blog posts, but to really see what all is out there, you'll just have to travel to Denver, visit our dispensaries, and see for yourself.

You'll likely say what many marijuana tourism seekers say when they first step into a well-stocked recreational dispensary: “I feel like a kid in a candy store!”

When you see the countless sparkling jars of beautiful buds and the plethora of candies, marijuana beverages, and other incredible edibles, you'll know exactly what they mean.

Kief vs Hash

Posted by CANNASaver on Thursday, 25 March 2021 in Canna Blog

Frazier vs Ali. Coke vs Pepsi. Red Sox vs Yankees. Kief vs Hash.

Fortunately, there is no rivalry between kief vs hash – just some key differences.

Both are great ways to get high, though there are changes in composition, production, and ingestion that make each unique.

By the end of this article, you’ll know everything there is to know about both hash and kief.

Definitions of Kief and Hash

·         Kief – an accumulation of trichomes sifted from cannabis flowers with a mesh screen.

If you’ve ever used a grinder, odds are you’ve already run into some kief on your own. Kief is the small, powder-like substance you’ll find in a kief catcher. Most grinders are equipped with one on the bottom third portion. When using the grinder to break down flower, the smaller cannabis particles fall down to the kief catcher. These are among the strongest parts of the cannabis plant – kief can get you really high. Kief contains the highest concentration of cannabinoids (THCA, CBD, etc.) in the entire plant.

·         Hash (hashish) – a concentrate created by pressing the resin glands of the cannabis plant together.

Hash is essentially pressed and heated kief. When pressed, the composition of the kief changes. Kief itself is like a powder – hash is more akin to soft brick. This hash can be ingested on its own or used to make other concentrates. All concentrates – wax, shatter, oils – are essentially made from hash. Hash can be many different colors but is typically brown, green, or tan.

History of Kief and Hash

Kief: Comes from an Arabic word meaning “pleasure.” This makes only makes sense, as kief holds some of the highest amounts of cannabinoids of the entire marijuana plant. It’s hard to track down the first time kief was ever used – wherever someone was breaking down marijuana, kief was being made. Old civilizations had been known to sift marijuana plants in order to obtain kief. As cultivation of weed has been traced back to as early as 500 BCE, one can assume kief was being used as well.

Hash: Hashish is really the original concentrate. Yes, kief is technically a concentrate – but that’s just collected, vs pressing/heating. Hash requires a process to be made. It’s been used both recreationally and medically for thousands of years. A reference to hash can be found in the book 1001 Arabian Nights, which was first published in 1775 – but the contents are likely from much earlier, somewhere between the 8th and 14th Centuries. There are also stories that link the use of hash to Haydar, the founder of the Sufi order. Hashish was widely used among ancient civilizations in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. The concentrate even began to be studied for medical purposes in the early 1900s.

How Kief and Hash are Made

Kief: Kief isn’t as much of a making process as it is a collecting process. It’s really quite simple – use your grinder. The frequently you grind up flower, the more kief you will collect. Kief can also be collected using a sifter.

Hash: The process of making hash is slightly more labor-intensive. Kief is needed to get started on production. The higher the concentration of cannabinoids, terpenes, and trichomes, the stronger the hashish will end up.

The most common way of making hash at home uses a flat-iron or hair straightener, some parchment paper, and kief. Kief goes in the parchment paper, then it is pressed and heated with the iron or straightener. After a short amount of time, the kief will turn into an solid/liquid that can be dabbed or smoked.

Another common way to make hash is by just using the hands. Called charas, and popular in India, flowers are rolled in the hands until a paste-like solid is formed.

The production of hashish has a rich history and is different among many cultures. Still, the end result is the same – a strong concentrate rich with cannabinoids and terpenes.

How To Use Them

Kief: Kief can be used in a variety of ways. Since it’s so commonly collected among stoners, many people have found great ways to utilize all of the cannabinoids located within.

·         Top Off a Bowl or Joint: Kief is pretty strong by itself. It is possible to smoke it on its own, but its powdery texture often leads to incredibly strong hits and coughing fits. Kief really is strong enough that most people don’t need to smoke it by itself. Topping off a bowl or a joint is a great way to make your weed much more potent.

·         Make Cannabutter: Cannabutter is exactly what it sounds like. This product can be used to make stronger edibles than those made with just flower.

·         Spike Your Coffee: That’s right – a popular way to consume kief is by putting it in the morning cup of coffee. The heat of the coffee will activate the cannabinoids in the kief, leaving you with an ultra-relaxing cup of joe.

·         Make Concentrates: Kief can be used to make a variety of concentrates – hash, live resin, shatter, and others. A good way to use your kief is to make moon rocks. These are a combination of flower, hash oil, and kief and are an accepted form of homemade concentrates.

Hash: Hash can be used like most other concentrates – but also like flower as well.

·         Put It In a Joint: You can roll up hash in a joint like you would with kief. The hash will up the potency of your joint.

·         Smoke a Bowl: Hashish itself can be put into a bowl and smoked just like flower. Hash is typically very strong, so not as much will be needed as flower.

·         Dab: If made correctly hash can be dabbed like other concentrates. With enough heat, the hash will be melted into a liquid that can then be dabbed.

Kief vs. Hash

In the end, whichever you like better is really personal preference.

Though both kief and hash have distinct differences, the end result is the same – you’ll be high.

How to Pick Weed at a Dispensary

How to Pick Weed at a Dispensary

Posted by CANNASaver on Monday, 22 March 2021 in Canna Blog

The use of cannabis has been documented throughout history, dating back more than 2000 years in the human story. Yet, for all the years it has been available in our human history, the world has never dealt with the plant as it does today. Dispensaries have 10’s if not 100’s of products, including strains, concentrates, edibles, and topical cannabis products. This large amount of options can easily overwhelm, which is why we thought a guide on how to pick weed at a dispensary is in order.

Tips to Ease the Process

Choosing weed at a dispensary is both old and new. It is new in that many of us have never been able to visit a dispensary. It is old as the industry is architected to feel familiar, with sales counters and friendly staff ready to help with any questions. In some ways, it is akin to choosing jewelry; glass cases filled with products and (sometimes) a magnification glass atop to look more closely.

For new-to-novice consumers and patients, picking a marijuana product will first come to a process of elimination. Here are a few questions to keep in mind:

  • Do I have the proper smoking equipment to consume this?

  • How much do I want to spend?

  • How long will this quantity last for me?

These questions can help to focus the purchase by removing the question of product type and total amount to spend. This leaves but one question - and it is full of choices as well - what product do I want?

How To Pick Weed At A Dispensary: Choosing A Strain

Smoking weed is among the most popular ways around the world to consume this carefully curated crop. Marijuana is an agricultural product and like our fruits and veggies, can vary in size, flavor, and - in the case of marijuana - the effect it produces.

To pick a weed strain at a dispensary, it is important to consider three general ‘buckets’ that cannabis strains find themselves:

Is It An Indica, Sativa, Or Hybrid?

“Sativa”, “Indica”, and “Hybrid” are all terms used in dispensaries as a basic barometer for the effects the strain will have.

“Sativa” strains are known as energizing, day-time strains that inspire creative thought. “Indica” strains are known for mellow, relaxed, and even sleepy experiences. “Hybrid” strains are somewhere in the middle.

Much like craft beer, these neat buckets allow for stores to organize their inventory and streamline sales tactics.

While it is this writer’s belief these three designations - Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid - are much less important to consumers than we want to believe, one of the questions nearly every budtender will ask is about the type of strain you are seeking.

That is not to say these designations are never appropriate when you pick weed at a dispensary. These distinctions can help growers know if the plant will be tall with long branches or short and bushy but communicate less about the effects than this writer has come to believe.

The Two Things You Should Always Review

In truth, the main things to consider when you pick weed at a dispensary are as follows:

  • What is the cannabinoid profile?

  • What terpenes are present?

Not all budtenders will have both pieces of this. Colorado requires the cannabinoids present in flower to be measured as a percentage of dry weight. It is not required in Colorado for labs to disclose the terpene profile, but some companies do anyway. Other states vary in requiring terpene content to be stated on the label.

Terpenes are molecules producing both the flavor and aroma of the strain and have been shown to interact with cannabinoids to create unique experiences for consumers and relief to patients.

Cannabinoids are the molecules found in the cannabis plant that produces much of the unique effects cannabis is known for. For instance, the “high” is attributed to THC while CBD helps with relaxation.

Because both the cannabinoid and terpenes present in a strain can vary plant by plant, each strain has different effects and flavors.

How To Pick Weed At A Dispensary: Choosing A Concentrate

Several US states and countries around the world have loosened laws regarding cannabis consumption, both recreationally and medically. As a result, the production of many cannabis products that were either scarce before or didn’t exist, coupled with emerging technologies and tools such as vape carts and batteries, has caused seismic changes to how cannabis is grown, processed, sold, and consumed.

Whereas it may have been uncommon to be able to purchase hash before, it is now sold conveniently. Unlike choosing between edibles and smoking, there are a dozen methods to consume and hundreds of ways to process or utilize the plant. Emerging as a hero in the legal cannabis industry, concentrates have taken ground from smoked flower for numerous reasons. Some include:

  • The potency

  • The refinement of the terpene profile

  • The separation of different cannabinoids

  • Relative cost-benefit compared to smoked cannabis (In some circumstances)

When picking marijuana concentrates, the following can help frame the decision:

  • Color: is it honey or amber-hued?

  • Texture: is it liquid? Is it supposed to be?

  • Aroma: does it smell waxy or predominately like terpenes?

Finished Choosing Your Weed Products? Don’t Forget the Tools!

Learning to pick weed at a dispensary can be a time-consuming process, and it doesn’t have to be. Identifying before you go some potential options can help guide the conversation when you arrive. Using the above information or diving into some product research and dispensary menus and deals near you can help guide you to the products you want, but it can take a bit of a time investment to learn the lingo and differences.

Knowing your budget and a potential quantity you are seeking can additionally guide the conversation upon arriving at your dispensary of choice.

But forgetting papers, glass, or a vaporizer or dab rig is always frustrating - especially if you have already reached the couch, shoes off.

Stoner Birthday Gifts

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 19 March 2021 in Canna Blog

It's your best friend’s/significant other’s/family member’s – we'll just play it safe by saying loved one's birthday coming up but you have no idea what to get them. Birthdays are hard. With this guide, you will be able to find something to make your birthday person’s day special but what exactly can you get them to make their special day, extra special?

Let us explore!

Birthday Gifts for Your Favorite Stoner

What better way to celebrate a birthday than with some weed!?

Here are our top picks on stoner birthday gifts:

Grinders

If the person you are buying a gift for doesn't have a grinder, get them one! The grinder is a stoner’s best friend. Throwing whole nugs or hand-broken nugs into a pipe often won’t burn very well. This brings uneven burning on your poor ol' cannabis. By grinding cannabis, you are increasing the surface area of your stash. The increased surface area allows for more bowls gained out of your buds and will burn very evenly. You also have the added bonus of kief accumulating at the bottom of your grinder. Kief is a great rainy day treat.

Stoner Films

Everyone enjoys a good stoner flick! Pick out a great film for a stoner film enthusiast. Here is a list of some classics to choose from:

  • Cheech and Chong: Up in Smoke (1978)

  • Pineapple Express (2008)

  • How High (2004)

  • Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)

  • Half Baked (1998)

  • The Big Lebowski (1998)

  • Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)

Smoke Buddy

A Smoke Buddy is a modern-day "sploof" for adults. A classic "sploof" consists of a toilet paper tube stuffed with laundry sheets. Now enters the buddy.

Smoke Buddy is a long-lasting choice. Made of various colored plastic, Smoke Buddies have a good design, effective, and not a toilet paper tube. These things are awesome.

Vaporizers

Vaporizers are known as the most efficient way to smoke marijuana. They are easy to use and extremely discreet. They are one of the healthiest ways to consume due to producing no tar byproducts.

Vaporizers also reduce the amount of odor being emitted while maintaining flavor. Companies like PAX and GreenDot have cartridges that you would swear were actual bud hits.

In terms of the best herb vaporizer, the volcano reigns supreme. Though initially expensive, it will help you get the most out of smoking your weed. You can even re-burn vaped weed a couple of times, adding to its efficiency.

A Big Bag of Weed

Everything's better with a bag of weed, right? Get the birthday person a bag of their favorite strain of marijuana. Nothing is better than a surprise bag of weed.

Concentrates

Concentrates such as wax, shatter, and live resin were made for the modern stoner. Any concentrate would make a birthday much grander  Cannabis concentrates often hit between 60-80% in THC potently. The higher potency maintains a longer high. Great for the birthday boy/girl.

Edibles

Edibles are the longest-lasting way to enjoy cannabis. These tasty treats can last anywhere from 4-6 hours with smoking lasting much shorter in length. It does not take much of an edible to get a desired high. Edibles are also a health-conscious way to get high, protecting your lungs from toxins and carcinogens found in smoke. Another great way for the birthday person to enjoy a sustained high.

A Better Bong

The beautiful, classic bong. How we love thee. Bongs are often beautiful and could even be pieces of art. The bong is ever so trusty when getting you high and getting you high really fast.

With water pulling gross toxins from entering your body, it cools the smoke in your lungs allowing for bigger hits. Use a smaller bowl when using a bong to get maximum efficiency when smoking your weed.

Get them a more artistic/stylish bong!

Bong Cleaner

Sometimes all the birthday person needs is a way of cleaning their dirty piece.
Formula 420 is a non-toxic, quick cleaner. The formula allows you to skip the scrubbing and soaking processes. The cleaner is also biodegradable and will leave your bong deodorized.

Orange Chronic is a cleaner made from natural substances such as oranges. This cleaner has a refreshing smell while kicking your resin’s butt. All this while you know your piece is getting cleaned.

Resinate has a cleaning mixture that is just right, taking the guesswork out of making solutions yourself. It sterilizes while leaving your bong squeaky clean. It also comes in various cleaning phase bottles and grinder cleaner.

DeBowler

Anyone who smokes out of a pipe or out of bowls knows that the bottom gets caked with loose ashes. This eventually leads to the pipe getting clogged. The DeBowler clears the problem away by giving stoners an easy way to clean out their bowl between sessions.

Wraparound Sunglasses

The sun can be absolutely awful on a stoner’s dry, red eyes. Get them a good pair of sunglasses. Both stylish and those eyes will burn no longer.

Roast & Toast Mug

Perfect for the stoner who loves smoking a bowl while enjoying their morning cup of coffee. The mug includes a fully functioning bowl in the handle. It’s good for when you want to drink coffee and enjoy some marijuana without having to carry so many things to the breakfast table.

Cannabox

Cannabox offers an assortment of unique gifts for stoners starting at $13.99 a month. This box is packed with 6-9 essentials each month you subscribe. Not only does it have lots of goodies, but it’s also extremely easy to sign up. You can prepay and have it shipped directly to your birthday person.

Fancy Stash Bags and Devices

Stash bags can get about as designer as you want them to be. They are absolutely amazing and necessary. They typically have room for the stash, pipe, lighter, and if lucky, your grinder. Stash bags absorb strong weed smells by using activated charcoal. Leaves no odor behind.

Shopping for a stoner can sometimes be fairly tricky. With this list, you can start your journey at least with some ideas. Make sure to note the stuff they have vs. the stuff they need. But foremost, have fun with it! Everyone enjoys personalized birthday shopping.

Naming Weed Strains

Naming Weed Strains

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 12 March 2021 in Canna Blog

Spending time around cannabis is a much different thing when a dispensary is involved. As more and more states legalize cannabis, it occurred that many would-be legal or medical marijuana consumers and patients would have to learn the strains and products they are interested in and that provide the most benefit or experience. Naming weed strains is not always a good indicator for the experience or benefit, but in most cases, it can offer some clues.

In this guide, we provide an overview of the top five things that can impact the naming of a cannabis strain:

  • Genetics

  • Aroma

  • Color

  • The Year

  • The Region

How Weed Strains Are Named

There are hundreds if not thousands of different strains. Some can be informative and others exist to be random or silly. There are more clues in the names as to what you can expect from certain strains than most people realize. These clues allow patients and consumers to approximate the experience or benefit a particular strain will have.

The Genetics of the Weed Strain

Naming a strain most often comes from a reference to the genetics of the two parent plants. By crossing or splicing the genes of two-parent plants, more robust flavors, complimentary experiences or benefits, and, in several cases, can contain larger amounts of THC and/ or other cannabinoids.

For instance, several strains can be found with “Kush'' somewhere in their name. This acts as a sort of suffix that can tell you a few different things. Generally, these strains are descendants of a subset of Indica plants that originally grew in the Hindu Kush mountain ranges between Afghanistan and India. Strains with the “Kush” qualifier will generally be more on the Indica side of the spectrum, known to produce a relaxed, euphoric side experience.

This leads us to the question: What if a “Kush” strain was mixed with a Sativa strain, which is known for being energizing and uplifting. For example, the name of the strain “Lemon Kush” implies that both the strain has ‘“Kush” genetics, but that the strain Lemon G was crossed with it.

This allows the strain to take on, for some consumers and patients, a relaxing yet uplifting, focused experience. This is what is known as a hybrid strain.

The Aroma of the Strain

While we are on the topic of Lemon G, a Sativa strain, let’s begin the conversation on flavor as an aspect of naming a weed strain.

In the strain Lemon G, the strain is named based on genetics, with the “G” comes from the strain “G13” and the “Lemon” comes from an unknown cross strain. But what is also very apparent is that lemon is a citrus fruit. Just by association, one could deduce the strain will have a citrusy, lemon-like aroma.

While the aroma and flavor of a strain is entirely the work of the terpenes in the strain, these common associations to fruit, berries, and even candy are common in naming weed strains. And in most cases, you can smell and taste a bit of the fruit or food mentioned.

There are some less sweet-sounding strains as well. Sour, Diesel, Skunk, and Chem are common prefixes and suffixes of cannabis strains.

These are some of the most common modifiers used in naming cannabis strains, as they imply a blend of earthy, pungent, and a “definitely going to fill the room with some funky” aroma. Moreover, these terms are largely references to strain genetics and can be (accurately) used as a selling point due to potency. These strains generally carry a high THC content and a bit more of an uplifting effect than some other strains, whether they lean more on the Indica or Sativa side.

The Color of the Strain

Both genetics and terpenes impact the color of a strain. Color is not necessarily correlated to the aroma but can draw some inspiration. In the case of Grand Daddy Purple, known as “Grand Daddy Purp”, the leaves and buds are hued with the lush of lavender yet the aroma is something else entirely: a robust mix of earth, pepper, and berries or grape.

In naming weed strains, the color is among the top modifiers. It allows for easy visual differentiation and is generally unique to each strain. However, only certain strains express purple or blue characteristics.

The Year the Strain Was First Created

This is rare, but one popular strain that comes to mind is Pre-98 Bubba Kush. This hybrid strain utilizes the “Pre-98” to communicate to consumers and patients the strain has roots in cannabis history as one of the best strains around. While many strains consistently outmatch Pre-98 Bubba Kush, it is still a favored strain for its heavy body high and relaxing effect.

The Region the Strain Was Grown

Concerning “OG”, as is seen in California OG, OG Kush, and many other strains, the most commonly pointed reason for naming marijuana strains with “OG” is that landrace Afghani genetics were grown in the climate of California, managing to grow in a much different climate than the Afghan mountains.

Much like how wines, scotch, and other foods or beverages must be from a region to be considered authentic, OG is thought to explain the plants were not mountain-grown, as Afghani had been traditionally, but were “Ocean Grown”, relaying details, not about the strength of the strain, but the environment which it was grown.

A Blend Of Terms Make Up Modern Strain Names

As noted above, naming marijuana strains is often a blend of not only genetics but generally several other factors.

And other good news: YOU CAN BLEND YOUR VERY OWN MIXES OF STRAINS!

Whether choosing to grow your own or buying a few different strains of dry flower from a local dispensary to mix to your flavor, color, aroma, and effect preference is what the legal market for cannabis allows. So we encourage you to shop not just based on any one single quality, but on many of the above naming criteria.

What Is a Preroll?

What Is a Preroll?

Posted by CANNASaver on Monday, 01 March 2021 in Canna Blog

Before the days of legalization, stoners would roll their own joints and blunts. This wasn’t a huge issue – some people enjoy the task. Many people still choose to do so today.

But with legalization came an easier solution – pre-rolls.

A pre-roll is a joint that’s been made by a dispensary or other cannabis vendor for the customer’s convenience. They’re comprised of flower, rolling paper, and a filter.

They take the hassle out of rolling a joint at home. Instead of grinding down the weed and struggling to roll up the joint, you can just buy a pre-roll and get toking.

The joint is a pothead classic. Though there are many ways to consume marijuana, the joint remains one of the most popular forms. But some people just can’t get good at rolling them.

For this reason, the pre-roll was invented. Convenient, quick, and relatively cheap, the pre-roll has become a dispensary staple.

They’re often recommended for newcomers as an easy way to get into weed. Typically not as harsh or strong, pre-rolls also have a longer-lasting shelf-life than joints rolled at home.

So What's the Deal with Pre-rolls?

It used to be a fairly common belief that pre-rolls were made with "shake" or low-quality weed. Pot smokers often found them to be dry, weak, and overall not a good way to spend your money.

It’s not always entirely untrue. Sometimes pre-rolls are made with low-quality weed, and it’s hard for the consumer to tell beforehand. The rolling paper can hide possible faults with the flower.

The problem is that some companies use trim – the excess stems, seeds, and leaves that get cut off the flower before curing – to stuff their pre-rolls with. The trim is notoriously less potent than the flower, leading to a lesser high.

Another issue for consumers is the use of shake in pre-rolls. Shake is scraps of the marijuana plant that have fallen off of larger pieces of bud during handling of the product.

Shake has a negative connotation among many stoners. People find it dry and less potent. This can sometimes be true, as the shake dries much quicker once it’s loose from the bud. But in reality, the shake comes from the same place as the rest of the flower. Whether or not shake is actually bad is really just personal preference.

Dispensaries often use shake to roll their joints because this allows them to not waste any marijuana. When handling jars or baggies of weed, shake inevitably falls off the bud. To toss perfectly good weed would be a waste, so it’s rolled into joints for consumer convenience. If the shake didn’t get to dry beforehand, it’s still a potent product.

Bad pre-rolls will likely always be somewhat of an issue. But, nowadays, they’re much rarer. Dispensaries and marijuana companies see the value of high-grade pre-rolls.

So, Why Should I Buy Pre-rolls?

The simplest answers are convenience and price point.

Everyone who has ever rolled a joint knows that it can be tough to get right. Sure, you can Google how to do it and give it your best shot, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get it right.

A pre-roll eliminates any issues with rolling. It’s right there, ready to smoke.

Pre-rolls are usually inexpensive as well. They’re usually a better deal per gram than the flower the joint contains. Obviously, you get what you pay for. A five-dollar pre-roll will likely not stack up to a twenty-dollar one.

That’s not to say that a five-dollar pre-roll is a bad purchase – it’s cheap and still bud. Ask your budtender about what went into the pre-roll, how it’s made, if it’s any good, etc. They should be willing to answer any questions.

You can also find high-quality pre-rolls if you’re willing to look. Just because a joint is pre-rolled doesn’t mean the quality is bad. In fact, many marijuana companies have started to produce high-grade pre-rolled joints for their consumers. This combines the ease of a pre-roll with the potency of high-quality flower.

Pre-rolls also have a longer shelf-life than their homemade brethren. A pre-rolled joint can last up to about a year if stored correctly.

Why Pre-rolls are Different

More often than not, pre-rolls will be in the form of joints. They’re the most popular, the easiest to make, and the easiest to consume. A joint, as you know, is made up of rolling paper and a filter, and is relatively light and fast to smoke. A pre-roll typically comes in half-gram of full-gram sizes.

Pre-rolls differ from similar blunts and spliffs because they contain only marijuana.

A blunt is very similar to a joint, but instead of rolling paper, a cigar wrap is used. Cigar wraps – made from tobacco leaves – contain tobacco, and therefore nicotine. The sale of nicotine is banned in Colorado dispensaries, so you won’t find many pre-rolled blunts. The exception is that some can be made from dried hemp leaves, which contain no tobacco.

A spliff is a joint that combines marijuana and tobacco. Rolling both substances together produces interesting effects. The combination of the two leads to an energizing high, due to the nature of the tobacco.

Pre-rolled joints also differ from a newer type of pre-roll – the cannagar.

A cannagar is basically what it sounds like – a marijuana cigar. Cannagars are made using marijuana leaves as the cigar wrap and then packed full with flower.

Unlike pre-rolled joints, cannagars are usually expensive, as there’s a huge amount of bud that goes into making one.

Where to Find Pre-rolls

Just about every dispensary in Colorado is going to have a variety of pre-rolls. They’re a big money-maker, and consumers love them.

Cannabis Tinctures

Cannabis Tinctures

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 26 February 2021 in Canna Blog

Marijuana is a wonder plant. Yes, it’s great for smoking. But it can be used in a variety of other ways – from concentrates to edibles.

Somewhere along the line, some genius created cannabis tinctures.

What is A Cannabis Tincture?

A tincture is a medication made by dissolving cannabis in alcohol. Alcohol is used as a solvent to extract the cannabinoids – like THC and CBD – to create an alcohol-based cannabis product.

Tinctures are similar to marijuana oils in that the cannabinoids and terpenes are extracted to make the end product stronger. Where it differs, though, is in the final product.

Marijuana and hash oils don’t contain any alcohol – in tinctures, it’s one of the main ingredients.

Tinctures are often found in small, dropper-capped bottles for easy dosing. Typically the tincture will be taken sublingually, or under the tongue. Tinctures contain all of the terpenes, cannabinoids, and trichomes that give weed its trademark psychoactive effects.

Tinctures have a long shelf life given their alcohol content and storage process. Combined with the ease of consumption, tinctures used to be a primary way to use marijuana.

Because of the ease of making and ingesting, tinctures are now being considered as a good entry point for new marijuana users.

The History of Cannabis Tinctures

The use of tinctures is not a new development. The science behind it isn’t new technology either. A tincture itself doesn’t need to contain cannabis, just alcohol. The use of tinctures can date all the way back to the ancient Egyptians.

Up until the marijuana prohibition of the 1930s, cannabis tinctures were available even in American pharmacies. They were the main form of cannabis medicine up to that point. It earned the nickname ‘the moonshine of marijuana’ for its use of alcohol. Cannabis tinctures were even found in the United States Pharmacopeia.

Tinctures were easy to make and safe to digest, so they were popular until outlawed. Now, with marijuana legalization happening across the US, tinctures have made a comeback.

How Tinctures Are Made

The process of making a cannabis tincture is quite simple when compared to other products such as rosin or moon rocks.

Alcohol is a solvent – a substance which other materials dissolve in to make a solution. In this case:

·         Alcohol = solvent

·         Marijuana = other materials

·         Cannabis tincture = solution

Almost any part of the plant that contains cannabinoids are terpenes can be used to make a cannabis tincture. Some products use kief, others use trim. Naturally, the strength of the marijuana that goes in affects the strength of the tincture that comes out.

Alcohol content also has an effect on the end product. High-proof alcohol will extract more cannabinoids and terpenes than a low-proof one.

Types of Cannabis Tinctures

For the most part, cannabis tinctures are consumed sublingually, or under the tongue. Since the tinctures typically come with a dropper similar to eye drops, the process is quick and easy. While underneath the tongue, the tincture is dissolved and ingested through osmosis. The cannabinoids are then absorbed through osmosis directly into the bloodstream.

This process generally doesn’t take that long for one to feel the effects – somewhere between fifteen and forty-five minutes. If swallowed instead, the process can take up to about two hours.

Tinctures can also be orally ingested, but the results vary greatly from sublingual consumption. Think of oral ingestion like taking an edible – the effects take a long time, the dosage is hard to perfect, and you may take too much before you realize it.

You can also take tinctures topically, like a lotion. The cannabinoids are absorbed through the skin through osmosis. Topically taking a tincture is good for general pain relief, such as a bruise. The cannabis tincture can also be mixed with cannabis lotion for a stronger effect.

Though there are other ways to consume tinctures, sublingually remains the most popular.

The Benefits of Cannabis Tinctures

Tinctures are certainly among the most uncommon ways to consume marijuana. In fact, they’re probably behind everything else.

But that doesn’t mean tinctures are worthless. Many cannabis enthusiasts think that tinctures are the most underrated way to use marijuana.

If you’re on the fence about trying tinctures, consider these benefits:

·         Ease of Consumption: No smoking, no eating, just a drop or two under the tongue. Boom, you’re done. Smoking is fun, but it can harm the lungs. Edibles are great, but they take longer to set in. Tinctures are as easy as they come.

·         Potency: Tinctures can also be pretty strong. Because of the way they’re created, cannabis tinctures are packed to the brim with cannabinoids and terpenes.

·         Dosage Control: A huge and often overlooked benefit of tinctures. There’s no better way to control exactly how much marijuana you’re ingesting. With tinctures, you can measure that down to the milliliter.

·         Discretion: There’s no worrying about getting caught taking a tincture – the process is over and done with in seconds.

·         Shelf-Life: Tinctures will last significantly longer than flower or other marijuana products.

·         Health Considerations: Tinctures have fewer calories than edibles. You also don’t need to inhale smoke and harm the lungs to take a tincture.

THC vs CBD Tinctures

Obviously, what you put into the tincture is what you get out of it. A tincture made from marijuana with a high THC content will act differently than one made with a high CBD content.

THC tinctures will get you high. THC is the cannabinoid that gives weed its trademark psychoactive effects. They offer the same benefits as CBD tinctures, but they also produce a high.

CBD tinctures are usually derived from hemp, not marijuana. These products have all the positive effects of THC tinctures – minus the high. A CBD tincture is used specifically for medicinal purposes.

How To Make a Cannabis Tincture

Yes, you can make cannabis tinctures at home – and it’s easier than you think.

You’ll need high-proof alcohol, cannabis flower, a mason jar, and some coffee filters. Keep in mind this process takes time – so if you’re in a hurry, grab some from your dispensary.

First, you’ll need to decarboxylate the marijuana. This simply means heating it up so the THCA turns into THC. If you skip this step, the tincture won’t produce a very strong high.

After decarboxylation, combine the flower and alcohol in the mason jar. Once closed, give it a good shake.

After that, store for about three weeks, making sure to shake it once a day. Once the time is up, strain the liquid through a coffee filter to catch the loose cannabis.

And that’s that. You’ve just made a cannabis tincture at home.

Congrats!

First Time Dispensary Deals

Posted by CANNASaver on Thursday, 25 February 2021 in Canna Blog

So, it’s your first time heading ye old dispensary, eh?

All I’ve got to tell you is, yay!

I’m absolutely excited for you and depending on where you are from, could even be the first time you’re buying it legally. If that applies to you, here’s to not meeting your favorite shotty dealer in that famous sketchy alley.

As someone who has experience as a budtender, I know many people have questions (rightfully so) when it comes to consuming cannabis.

So you, first-timer, I imagine you’ve got a bundle of them.

But I challenge you to come prepared. This is your first time in a dispensary, but don’t be the person the budtenders laugh about afterward.

Let me be the Virgil to your Dante as I show you how to survive your first dispensary visit. Maybe you’ll even dance with glee as you leave satisfied and more knowledgeable in the world of cannabis.

Welcome to… the dispensary!

What You Should Expect Your First Time at a Dispensary

You Will Be Carded

Like alcohol, marijuana is a 21+ kind of deal.

IDs will be checked. A state-issued, non-expired license will get you right through those doors. VIP style. However, keep your ID out, as the budtender will need to check it after the security does.

If you’re from another country, just bring your valid passport.

And I know, you’re probably old enough to be my mom. I’ve heard it. But I always ID'ed my mom. I know how old she is. Bring your ID.

Bring Cash

I know, I told you this wouldn’t be sketchy so why do you have to bring cash? Why not pay with a card? You can thank big brother, marijuana is not federally legal and therefore doesn’t play nice in the card department, yet. It’s good to look up prices online and get an estimate of cost.

Don’t be the person expecting the budtender to cover you with their tips, Get Cash.

There May Be a Wait

Dispensaries get backed up by random people rushes. It happens, but budtenders do their best to give their attention to the customer, while at the same time keep the line moving.

Try to be patient, you’re about to buy legal weed. Take a look at their menu. Smile!

Be Prepared (To an extent)

It’s good to have an idea of what you’d want. At Least know if you want to smoke, eat, drink, vaporize your marijuana. At bare minimum. Your budtender will love and respect you for it.

Look But Don't Touch

A dispensary is a beautiful place full of beautiful smells.

I once watched a budtender show a woman some weed and she then took a nug out of the jar then proceeded to eat it in front of him.

That’s uncomfortable and also illegal. No marijuana consumption is allowed on a dispensary site.

And just don’t touch the bud. No one wants to buy weed everyone touched, ya dig?

(EDIT: This isn't even an issue during COVID-19 times)

No Souvenir Photos, Please

This first time is an experience you want to remember. Pics or it didn’t happen right? Well, this goes against privacy for medical patients and is not allowed.

Be in the present. Take pictures when you leave. Leave the 'Gram-worthy dispensary pics to us.

Ask Questions A-Plenty

Though there are a lot of rules to legal marijuana, most budtenders will absolutely love to set you on your marijuana journey correctly.

If you have questions, have them prepared or perhaps written down. They’ll answer every single one you have!

What Kinds of Questions to Ask Your Budtender

What’s the Difference Between Indica and Sativa?

There are so many different kinds of cannabis strains created and grown here in Colorado. These are typically identified as Sativa, Hybrid, or Indica.

When buying, you should ask yourself what effect are you seeking? Is it creativity? Maybe it’s focus and energy? Or maybe it's insomnia relief, pain reduction, and relaxation you seek.

Different strains produce different results and can vary from person to person. What might be energy for you, might be paranoia for another. Explore strains with your budtender. Try things out. That’s the best part.

How Strong Are Edibles and How Will They Affect Me?

Edibles offer a strong, unusually unique marijuana experience. If you’re prepared for it.

It does not take much of an edible to get a desired high. The edible is digested with THC forming into a different byproduct in the liver making a chemical 2.5x stronger than regular THC.

Edibles are the longest-lasting marijuana product though they have an onset time between 30-90 minutes (depending on your metabolism), these tasty treats can last anywhere from 6-8 hours. Compared to smoking/dabbing lasting between 1-3 hours.  Infused drinks are known to hit much faster between 20-30 minutes.

With this comes some caution. Start with low doses and be patient. Overeating edibles can cause a bad time, especially in those new to cannabis. If the edible doesn’t kick in within 30-90 minutes, then take more. Not before.

This is a great item of discussion with your budtender.

What are Terpenes and Do They Matter That Much?

Terpenes are biological aromatic compounds found in many different plant species. In cannabis, they are responsible for the various flavors and aromas each strain obtains. The terpenes produce citrus, pepper, pine, and floral tastes/smells gathered within the buds. They promote relaxation/stress relief for Indica strains.

As for the sativas, they produce focus, uplifting, and energy. But more important than whether it’s a Sativa, Indica, or Hybrid, marijuana terpenes offer therapeutic effects on top of your high.

Example: pinene induces energy, enhanced alertness, and it’s also an excellent bronchodilator. Find out more!
