Distillate Syringe

Distillate Syringe

Posted by CANNASaver on Wednesday, 02 December 2020 in Canna Blog

Often available in an oral syringe, cannabis distillate is a highly potent cannabis product that has more ways to use it than almost any other form of cannabis. In part, this is because the cannabis oil in a distillate syringe is already activated and ready to produce an effect - medical or psychotropic. The other? Imagination is the limit.

The distillate syringe allows medical marijuana patients and recreational consumers to easily measure the dose of THC or CBD they are consuming while also keeping the sticky oil contained in an easy-to-dispense package.

Unlike many other cannabis concentrates which form into wax and butter textures or shatter like glass, marijuana distillate is more runny and sticky. This renders the jars and packages that cannabis wax or shatter come packed in less viable. Putting distillate in a syringe allows cannabis consumers to push the viscous resin out without fear of dropping the entirety of it on the carpet or on a work shirt - and this is just a small benefit of the peculiar packaging.

All About Cannabis Distillate

There are more types of cannabis concentrate than there are fingers on a human. You read that right – there are more than 10 varieties of weed concentrate, and more seem to show up each year. Each type of extract is produced using its own style and is often named for the finished texture or the method it is produced.

Cannabis distillate falls into the bucket of being named for its production method, which is distillation.

What is Distillation?

Distillation is a widely-used technique and has been for hundreds if not thousands of years. Distillation is used to clarify, separate, or refine various products, foods, and drinks, often using heat and oxygen. The water we drink can be distilled, as is the gasoline that fills a car and the alcohol that you, I, or the Romans drank. Distillation is largely associated with the science of chemistry - where scientists use the process to separate substances for the purpose of refining, concentrating, mixing, or creating a specific chemical or substance.

How is Cannabis Distillate Made?

Marijuana producers refine cannabis into distillate by starting with a Co2 or hydrocarbon (butane, propane, etc…) cannabis oil extraction, which contains many of the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in the plant.

Co2 hash oil is extremely common in hash oil pen cartridges while hydrocarbon-based concentrates are found more commonly in sugar, wax, and shatter.

Once the raw flower has been concentrated, distillation uses temperature and molecular weight to separate the molecules that give cannabis its flavors and effects from one another. This process uses the boiling points of the various natural compounds found in the cannabis plant to accurately pull one from the other. This leaves THC separate from CBD, separate from CBN, separate from CBG, and across all terpenes and flavonoids. It also makes for a nearly odorless, mostly flavorless (but sticky) product. And it’s because of this molecular distillation that cannabis distillate is 90+ percent THC on average. Since the cannabinoids like THC have higher melting points than the terpenes, the terpenes must first get separated to produce cannabis distillate. This makes it really easy for producers to reintroduce terpenes and flavors and dial them to create complementing flavor and effect combos.

But enough about how awesome distillate is – let’s get into the best ways to use distillate syringes.

Four Ways to Consume Cannabis from Distillate Syringes

Distillate Syringes for Smoking

Using a distillate syringe can add to the potency of your favorite flower. Top your bowls or infuse your joints with the sticky oil. Cannabis distillate is often sold with terpenes reintroduced so that us consumers can have some excellent flavor and an excellent experience. By mixing your favorite cannabis strain with distillate, you have infinite opportunities to explore more potent flavor and effect combinations. The syringe allows you to easily coat the joint paper or dispense a dollop atop a bong bowl.

Using Cannabis Distillate for Dabbing

Dabbing is a bit different than smoking. In principle, both require heat and for the consumer to inhale. The difference is dabbing is not burning, but vaporizing the cannabis. Distillate syringes are ideal for dabbing because you can easily dispense a dollop on your dab tool.

Distillate Syringes for Edibles

Distillate syringes are made to make it easier to dispense the resinous cannabis extract. The distillate, itself, is made to be consumable. It is activated and able to produce an effect out of the package. It should come as no surprise that this makes it an absolute winner when it comes to making edibles or adding cannabis to foods and beverages. With traditional concentrates, you’d have to decarboxylate the extract before it could pass into the brain. And while THC-a has some appreciable medicinal effects, it is THC that produces the lionshare of effects which cannabis is known to produce. Distillate syringes make it easy to add to anything.

Pro tip: Add to smoothies and salad dressings.

Eating Distillate from the Syringe

Initially setup to enable medical patients to be able to treat symptoms without having to smoke or inhale anything, distillate syringes allow the activated oil to be placed under the tongue, on the gums, or to be swallowed.

What Is Distillate?

What Is Distillate?

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 19 February 2021 in Canna Blog

Distillates have become an icon in marijuana culture. They have been considered the future of the cannabis industry in recent years. Distillate generally attracts marijuana lovers everywhere to its higher THC content and smoking discretion. THC distillate is found in dispensaries all over through cartridges, "dabables," edibles, or even spicing up joints.

But what is distillate?

Let’s look at this clear, sap-like concentrate and figure out why it's being known as the new frontier of cannabis.

what is distillate

So, What is Distillate?

One of the most commonly made types of cannabis oils is distillate. Distillate can be vaporized, dabbed, or used in edibles/topicals.

Distillate is a sappy, translucent oil that is devoid of waxes/undesirable compounds from the original marijuana plant.

The final product has been systematically stripped of all plant materials except for one specific cannabinoid; either THC or CBD. In our case, we will look at THC distillate.

The outcome of THC distillate is extremely potent but typically lacks naturally occurring terpenes. Sometimes terpenes or other flavors are put back into the distillate.

The drawback of this technique is the possible lack of therapeutic benefits associated with terpenes which affect the overall entourage effect.

But does it get you high?

Well, that depends on the cannabinoid used in the specific distillate produced – whether it is THC or CBD. This matters big time.

THC distillate is likely to get you extremely high where CBD distillate is pretty strictly a therapeutic or medicinal use product. THC distillate is known to produce an incredibly clean high.

How THC Distillate is Made

Marijuana distillate is made through the actual process of distillation, think the way whiskey or moonshine is made. For cannabis, distillation is achieved through processes such as fractional distillation, short-path distillation, and other methods.

It begins as crude cannabis oil (plant material still present) and is purified through two main factors.

Winterization of Distillate

Winterization is a method to purify crude oil extract products. These products include plant waxes, chlorophyll, fats, lipids, etc. The crude marijuana oil is mixed with ethanol or alcohol. The mixture is then placed in a frozen environment for 1-2 days. When the distillate mixture is removed, impurities from the crude oil are separated and fall to the bottom by using colder temperatures.

After being taken out of the freezing cold, it is passed through a filter. At the end of filtering the mixture, ethanol is removed entirely by using techniques such as rotary evaporation or falling-film evaporation.

When winterization is complete, we move to the next big step needed for distillation; decarboxylation.

vaping distillate

Decarboxylation of Distillate

Decarboxylation is the process of removing carboxylic acid found in the amino acids and fatty acids within the plant. The removal process occurs when the heat is applied, heated to the point which eliminates the acid.

In other words, such heat allows the cannabis compounds such as THCa to change into 100% THC. THCa alone does not get you high until the actual decarboxylation occurs, activating the THC. The process helps cannabinoids interact and hit correct brain receptors in your body.

Do Not Try This At Home

For safety reasons, making distillate is a complicated process that should be left to the professionals. In Colorado, it is illegal to manufacture distillates without a marijuana extraction license.

Like everything, distillates do come with some pros and cons. Let’s look further...

Pros of Distillates

Potency and Purity

If you are just trying to achieve a potent high, THC distillates are the Robin to your Batman; a wonderful, dutiful sidekick. A small amount can produce incredible results.

It is a solventless extraction eliminating the need for butane. Being made of entirely THC, you will know almost exactly what you are consuming into your body.

Discretion of Distillate Use

Distillates are odorless/smokeless which allows less attention to be drawn to you smoking. They are a quick and easy relief on a short break.

Full Decarboxylation

THC distillates are immediately ready to use. The decarboxylation allows THC to quickly travel to your bloodstream and produces quick results for which you seek.

Produces for Cheaper

THC distillates stretch cannabis plants further than ever before by using every material possible in the plant. It can even use low-potency material, such as trim, and boost potency. New technologies can even produce 75%+ in return for the crude oil product. Much more than BHO.

distillate

The Cons of Distillate

Higher Potency

Though higher potency is often a plus of distillate, THC distillate’s higher potency is discouraged to first-timer users or those not very accustomed to THC’s effects.

For these people, THC distillate can be overdone while smoking and lead to paranoia and anxiety. This often happens due to the lack of the modulation of CBD, CBG, and other cannabinoids present in strains.

High potency does not always equal a good experience.

Expensive Process

THC distillates are produced for cheaper than other methods cause more of the plant can be used overall.

But, things needed to make distillate are another matter entirely. The machinery needed to manufacture distillates can be 10’s of thousands of dollars to buy. They also required specialized, skilled lab technicians to operate.

Terpenes & Flavors Removed

In the distillation process, terpenes and other natural flavors are removed to isolate specific cannabinoids. They often require special equipment to add the natural terpenes back into the distillate. The diminished terpenes can lead to a lack of the entourage effect being able to occur in your body. This often means companies add artificial flavors into the mixture. The artificial flavors can be extremely off-putting to those seeking an authentic marijuana experience.

Tolerance

The high potency of THC distillate can majorly boost your tolerance. The result is the need for much more THC in order to obtain a desired high.

If distillates are something you really enjoy or they are something you were thinking of trying out, check out Cannasaver for the best deals on distillates (THC and CBD) near you.

So if you want 99% pure, solventless, sappy gold; distillates are the concentrates tailor-made for you.

Cheap Vape Pens for Weed

Posted by CANNASaver on Monday, 12 April 2021 in Canna Blog

Vaping has gained a ton of popularity over the last couple of years – remember when everyone was using a JUUL (we still see a lot of these)? Now we don’t advocate for nicotine vapes here, but vape pens for weed are an entirely different story.

Vapes are among the most convenient and discreet ways to get high. They’re handheld, portable, and – depending on what you put in them – they pack a punch. Weed vapes are getting more and more popular – you probably either know someone who has one or have one yourself.

There are three main types of weed vape pens:

1)  A vaporizer that you fill with flower or concentrates.

2)  Vape pens that are only a battery and pre-filled distillate cartridges.

Both have pros and cons. Vaporizers can be filled with whatever you choose – whether it’s bud or wax or whatever. Vape pens are strong and insanely easy to use. Both are discreet and portable.

Unfortunately, vape pens can get expensive. And you might be intimidated by the price point if you’re considering buying one. No worries, we’re here to help. You can find plenty of cheaper options that work just as well as the high-end ones.

weed concentrate vape pens

Weed Vape Pens That Won’t Break the Bank

You can find vape pens at any dispensary and it won’t hurt to ask the budtender for help when deciding what to buy. But it also helps to go in with an idea of what you’re looking for. We’ll break down some of the best, cheapest options in this article, separated by type. If you see one you like, check out weed coupon websites like Cannasaver to see if there are any deals on the product.

Herb & Concentrate Vaporizers

Herb & concentrate vaporizers do exactly what you think they do – they vaporize flower or concentrates. You fill the cartridge with marijuana and the temperature-controlled device will make it possible to vape. They’re very user-friendly and allow for a lot of customization. Here are some of the best options that won’t hurt your wallet:

Black Mamba Vaporizer – $48.99

The Black Mamba Vaporizer is a slick-looking with a conduction oven that can hold about 0.65 grams of flower. It’s a different shape than your average vaporizer and the conduction oven slightly changes the vapor you get. At just under $50, it’s a good vaporizer to purchase.

Yocan Evolve Plus XL Vaporizer – $49.99

The Yocan Evolve Plus XL is the newest version of Yocan’s fantastic vaporizer line. The new line is slightly bigger and has several quality-of-life improvements. The vaporizer is now easier to fill and take apart and they’ve added a way to adjust the airflow intake for the perfect vape hit.

Kind Pen Bullet Vaporizer – $49.99

The Kind Pen Bullet Vaporizer gets its name from its – you guessed it – bullet-like shape. This vaporizer is used only for concentrates. Its shape allows for easy portability and discretion. The pen is also manufactured so that any leftover concentrate gets turned to vape on the next use.

Jump Atmos Dry Herb Vaporizer – $64.99

The Jump Dry Herb Vaporizer is a perfectly designed vaporizer that is both durable and easy to use. Simply pack the cartridge with flower and vape away. The cartridge should keep its heat for a short while, so you can take multiple hits quickly.

Honey Dabber II - $49.99

The Honey Dabber II is a concentrate vaporizer created by Honey Labs. The cherry wood sleeve gives the vape an authentic, natural look and doesn’t lower structural integrity. The piece is about five inches long, so the vapor will be cooled and mostly odorless by the time it hits. This cheaper option gives the look of a high-end vape and works just as well.

AirVape XS Go Vaporizer – $69.95

The AirVape XS Go Vaporizer is a small, portable concentrate vape. This vaporizer is also extremely light so it makes for the perfect on-the-go vape pen. The pen comes with five temperature options and a ceramic oven for easy cleaning. The mouthpiece is detachable so it can be cleaned in alcohol easily.

 Vapium Lite Vaporizer - $79.00

The Vapium Lite is a dry herb vaporizer with eight temperature settings for maximum control. The ceramic conduction oven produces good flavor and vapor. The chamber holds up to 0.33 grams of flower for a nice, short vape session.

distillate vape pens

Distillate Vape Pens

Distillate vape pens differ from herb and concentrate vaporizers in that they need a specific pre-filled distillate cartridge. These are generally cheaper than vaporizers – but there’s a catch. Depending on how often you use the pen, the distillate cartridges may not last long. Unfortunately, they can sometimes be expensive, so make sure you’re getting a good deal.

Honey Stick Elf Auto Draw Vape – $24.99

The Honey Stick Elf is a small, buttonless distillate ‘pen.’ Its boxy shape allows for easy transportation. The magnetic connector piece for the cartridge allows for easy access and detachment. The Honey Stick Elf is compatible with most of the cartridges you’ll find at a dispensary.

Kandypens Slim Oil Vape - $34.95

Kandypens is known for its impressive selection of many different vaporizers. The Slim is just that – slim. It’s an elegant and simple design that will fit in your pocket and take up very little space. It’s compatible with all pre-filled cartridges from dispensaries. This vape is also buttonless and activates and you take hits.

HoneyStick BeeKeeper – $39.95

The HoneyStick BeeKeeper is a higher-end vaporizer that works with pre-filled cartridges. The vapor is both flavorful and great in quality. This vape pen has a button that must be pressed in order to draw in, but no temperature or heat controls are needed.

·         Click Ounce Deals. The main body of the page will change to display all the best local deals on an ounce.

One thing you’ll appreciate is that when the page fills with deals, under “Ounce Deals And Coupons,” a sub-menu appears, with headings like Medical, Recreation, Price, and Store. If you don’t see a deal on the page to tempt you, you can refine your choice by clicking on these options.

·         Got a price range in mind for your ounce? Choose it from the pricing drop-down.

That’s a deal from Herbs4You in Denver, Colorado, and it features among the pictured Recreational deals.

Again, the sub-menu lets you select your price range, your type and amount, or your favorite store, to simplify your browsing experience. Click on the deal, get the coupon, go to the store, done.

Vaporizer vs Vape Pen

Posted by CANNASaver on Thursday, 28 October 2021 in Canna Blog - Latest News

We are incredibly lucky to have all sorts of devices that help us get the most out of our favorite buds. But for many, the rise of such devices can confuse consumers quickly.

Even with these bad boys existing for years, vaporizers and vape pens are often mistaken for one another. As a past budtender, I definitely have been asked probably thousands of times and it has gotten me confused when a customer is describing one of the products but calling it the others’ name.

With so many different marijuana devices appearing over the years, it may be good to check out the similarities and differences between vaporizers vs vape pens.

The Benefits of Vaping

Some may not be into smoking flower straight from a bowl or even consuming cannabis, but are still looking for a healthier way of consuming cannabis

Well, vaping is one, for starters!

Here’s why:

  • Easy to use: By simply hitting a button, both will provide more even doses of THC per session.

  • Less cannabis waste: Vaping typically requires less marijuana to get the kind of high you desire. Seshs are much more potent so will require less marijuana.

  • Cleaner hits: Vaping allows for more potent/cleaner hits. With no combustion, the vapor contains much fewer toxins per hit.

  • Less smell: Marijuana flower often has a strong, skunky smell that some people cannot stand to be around. Vaping cuts out the smell by 60-75%. They put off more of a terpene smell.

Vaporizers Vs. Vape Pens by Definition

Let’s contrast these two ways of smoking by their definition, shall we?

Vaporizers

Vaporizers (dry herb vaporizers) are made up of a vapor pathway, a heating oven for the flower, a button for temperature/on and off, and a mouthpiece.

They are small and handheld, though are bigger than vape pens.

These devices pack a more powerful punch in terms of energy. Vaporizers use conductive heating which allows for even burning while vaping.

Brands like PAX and Firefly are dry herb vaporizers.

Vape Pen

A marijuana vape pen has a defined thin, long design.

This is why it’s known as a pen. They are made to be discreet.

The majority of the device is taken up by the actual battery which warms the device.

A body is there to fire the device and change temperatures.

Vape pens typically will need a cartridge (THC or CBD). The mouthpiece of a vape pen will come with the cartridge you purchase. A variable of the vape pen would be a disposable vape pen with the cartridge and battery all in one.

When empty, you simply throw the device away.

Similarities Between Vaporizers & Vape Pens

Now, it’s easy to get the two confused, and here are a few reasons why:

Portable

Vaporizers and vape pens are very portable.

Being handheld, both devices are great for traveling, break times, or when convenience is needed.

Discreet

Vaporizers and vape pens are incredibly discreet.

These devices don’t scream that you are smoking weed. This can be useful for some people.

Built To Vaporize

Fundamentally, both vaporizers and vape pens have a power source (battery).

The battery allows the devices to heat a chamber/coil and vaporize flower, wax, oils, etc.

Control Of Temperature

Both herb and oil vape devices have an assortment of models.

Each one offers different temperature control ranges. Some are limited, while others provide a full range of settings.

Rechargeable

Having lithium batteries, vaporizers and vape pens can be recharged via USB cable in most instances.

The other type has removable batteries which go into a charging pack.

Differences Between The Vaping Devices

So, as you can see, they are quite similar. However, here’s how you can distinguish between a vaporizer vs vape pen:

Type of Marijuana Product Vaped

The type of marijuana preparation defines the product you will want to use.

Vaporizers are typically used for vaping actual buds. Vape pens are used when vaping THC oil cartridges. Though they do make wax/concentrate vaporizers so just be aware of what you are looking for.

Loading Process

With vaporizers, cannabis buds need to be finely ground up and placed into a heating chamber. You will also need to dump and clean out the chamber after each use.

With vape pens, prefilled cartridges filled with THC oils can simply be screwed onto the battery. On the other hand, oil cartridges come in both pre-filled cartridges and ones you can fill on your

Vaporizer Heating Chamber vs Vape Pen Cartridges

For the average dry herb vaporizer, a dry herb vape chamber will last forever. It gets packed and cleared similar to bowl packing. Oil vapes, on the other hand, require a battery equipped with a cartridge. Unlike chambers, the cartridge used in oil vape pens is interchangeable and replaceable.

Maintenance of Devices

Both devices are easy to maintain. Charging the battery will be the biggest thing to remember. The vaporizer will need the chamber cleaned out to keep the device vaping with good flavors.
