Five Ways to Save Money on Recreational Weed and Medical Marijuana at Your Local Dispensary

For those of us who love weed, enjoying it as frequently as we'd like to enjoy it can get a little pricey. If a substantial portion of your budget is literally going up in smoke, it's time to find some ways to save money on marijuana. Here are five ways to cut back on your weed costs without having to cut back on the weed itself.

Go for Variety!

If you're only toking one type of weed, you'll quickly build up a tolerance, and the potency of the weed will seem to diminish with each bowl you smoke. Different strains of cannabis affect the mind and body in different ways. By enjoying a wide variety of buds, you're likely to feel higher and get maximum benefit from each little piece you toke, which enables you to get more bang for your buck.

Look for a dispensary that allow customers to split up quantities between different types of herbs, for instance, getting an ounce in the form of four quarters of different types of weed instead of just a single variety.

You might want to try a variety of cannabis consumption methods, too. The high provided by a single edible can last hours longer than the high produced from smoking a bowl, and is thus often more economical. Try topicals and edibles; supplement your best buds with dabs of wax and shatter and an additional bag of shake. It might seem counter-intuitive, but the more kinds of marijuana strains you enjoy, the more money you're likely to save on weed and concentrates in the long run at your local dispensaries!!

Share!

This again seems counter-intuitive, but it's true that the more weed you share, the less money will you spend at your dispensary on weed. It's the basic law of cannabis karma, the Golden Rule of weed smoking: Blaze up with others as you would have them toke with you. What goes around comes around, and that guy next door who you shared your last tiny bowl with yesterday might very well show up at your house tomorrow ready to smoke you up with a plump ounce of Colorado's finest weed. If you want to save money on weed, sharing beats out stinginess every time.

Use CannaSaver Coupons!

Seeing as you're here right now, you're most likely already aware that you can find tons of great money saving Denver recreational marijuana and MMJ coupons and deals on CannaSaver.com, but are you taking full advantage of all the dispensary discounts and weed deals available to you? You can find coupons for discount ounces, grams of wax and shatter, complimentary joints, buy one get one free edibles, and more from your favorite Denver dispensaries close to home. Check local newspapers and magazines for sales and specials, and make it a habit to pop onto CannaSaver.com to look for Dispensary Daily Specials and new recreational coupons and deals before you head out to the local dispensary or retail store. Actually, if you sign up for the CannaSaver Colorado newsletter, you'll get notified about the latest specials right in your email, so you won't miss out on any extra big savings and discounts.

Buy in Bulk!

Generally, the more weed you purchase from a dispensary at once, the cheaper per gram will it be. While a single gram might run you around $5-$10 in Denver, an entire ounce consisting of 28 grams can be purchased for $150—or even less, if you're coupon savvy. Determine how much money you have to spend on herbs in your monthly or bi-weekly budget, and when possible, procure the full quantity of buds you expect to need in a single purchase. The flower themselves will likely be cheaper, and you'll also save money (and time!) by avoiding extraneous trips to the local dispensary.

Grow It!

If it's legal for you to do so, why not grow some marijuana yourself? You might not have the greenest thumb or the most high-tech set-up, but any herb you manage to grow yourself is herb that you won't have to purchase. Cannabis cultivation can be a complex art, but mastering the basics is very simple. Cannabis is a weed, after all, and by Nature's design, it grows quickly and easily. There are also many great books on how to grow your own, like the Three A Light book on how to get 3 pounds per light. This book is really one of the best out there, especially if your looking to really get the highest yield per plant.  You might even arrange a growers co-op, providing a way for other small-scale cannabis gardeners to share, barter, and trade their spoils. Have the members of the gardening co-op stagger their growing cycles so that someone is always likely to have something ready to harvest.

These aren't the only ways to save money on cannabis, of course, but they're some of the most effective strategies you can employ without having to cut down on your weed intake. With a little savvy, you can get as high or as medicated as you like for a lot less cost.

Many tourists from out of state come to Denver for the marijuana tourism, and they always ask the same questions: Where can I find the cheapest recreational dispensary in Denver and the best recreational dispensary in Denver and the closest dispensary. There are many Denver dispensaries, from recreational dispensaries to medical marijuana dispensaries.

Best Dispensaries in Denver: Recreational dispensaries and medical marijuana

Livwell Broadway:

432 S Broadway, Denver, CO 80209

If you're looking for a convenient and affordable marijuana dispensary in Denver, Colorado, LivWell Broadway is one to check out. Located at Broadway and Alameda in a historical building that dates back all the way to the late nineteenth century, Livwell Broadway sells both recreational and medical marijuana.

If you have questions about a specific strain or need a recommendation of which bud to choose, the staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They can tell you which strains are sativa dominant, which are indica dominant, which are best for pain relief, which are best for a “head high,” and more. If you're enjoying some travel in Colorado and aren't at all familiar with the different weed terms, the staff at Livwell Broadway will explain the basics. They're always happy to describe their buds as well as their weed prices, which vary according to the quality of the cannabis.

One of their usual and most popular marijuana specials is the $99.99 ounce of re. The “popcorn” nugs from the pre-weighs are a little smaller than you'd get with the higher-quality, higher-priced selections, but they're a great value and definitely potent. The higher-quality, larger buds are sold as “gold shelf” or “platinum shelf.” The gold shelf buds are larger, well-formed, and cured for a minimum of 12 to 14 days. These go for $30 an eighth for recreational, with an ounce selling for $175. The platinum shelf consists only of the choicest top buds from the very tips of the topmost colas, which are hang dried, cured for at least 14 to 20 days, and hand trimmed. The platinum shelf flower sells for $50 an eight or $350 for an ounce, but if you can afford it, it's worth it.

LivWell Broadway has a rotating selection of many indica, sativa, and hybrid strains including 303 Kush, a popular indica-dominant strain that's excellent for pain relief, and Tangerine Power, a sativa-dominant strain with a pleasant citrus scent. They also regularly carry Zeta Sage, Golden Goat, Banana Kush, El Diablo, Alien Inferno, Fortune Cookie, and more.

MMJ America Downtown:

2042 Arapahoe St.

Denver, Co 80205

MMJ America downtown is the closest dispensary to Coor's Field, and they are also one of the best dispensaries in Denver that sells both recreational and medical marijuana. Their buds that they engineer at The Vault Genetics have won many awards, including a 1st place win for indica and indica hybrid, 2nd place wins for CDB flower, CDB concentrate, hybrid concentrate, and non-solvent hash,  and a 3rd place win for best sativa flower at the 2016 Cannabis Cup competition. The MMJ America downtown location is one of the most convenient Denver dispensaries to visit if you're traveling to Denver and you need to buy marijuana downtown.

Medicine Man Denver:

4750 Nome St.

Denver, CO

Medicine Man Denver features a large selection of marijuana, concentrates, tinctures, edibles, pipes, and other products. They have a huge facility where they grow many different strains of recreational and medical marijuana. If you're at DIA, the Denver International Airport, Medicine Man Denver might be the closest dispensary that is both a recreational marijuana dispensary and a medical marijuana dispensary. They have good weed prices, with daily specials every day of the week such as the $25 Top Shelf eighths they have on Thursdays, or Monday's BOGO on edibles special.

Where to Buy Weed

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 09 September 2022 in Canna Blog

You feel the need to get yourself some weed. Okay, but where-oh-where can you buy bud and other pot products? That is an excellent question.

You need to know how exactly to go about getting ganja. Stoner stores are called dispensaries or provisioning centers. For some medical patients, there are also caregivers who can get ganja on a patient’s behalf.

But what are the requirements for these marijuana merchandisers and pot providers? We’ll let you know the conditions under which you can buy from cannabis shops.

And what states have legalized recreational and/or medical sales? Is your state one of them? Do these states allow visitors to buy weed? These are all important points to ponder.

Knowing the answers to all the above, you now must ask the most important question of all. That is, how can you save money buying marijuana? Cannasaver can definitely help you there!

Let’s start with how you go about getting some of the good stuff.

where to buy recreational weed

How To Buy Weed

Buying ganja at a dispensary isn’t exactly like going to the grocery store. There’s still a federal prohibition on pot. So, state dispensaries have strict rules they have to abide by. That means cannabis consumers have to know local laws.

In most states, there is an age requirement for weed procuring and use. 21 years old is the standard, generally.

Provisioning centers are licensed for medical marijuana, recreational or both. Some states offer medical and some also allow casual consumption. We’ll cover which ones offer what momentarily.

Those locations that require cards have set fees and procedures for obtaining them. Medical authorization requires a doctor’s certification for potential patients. Time frames for the process of getting a card vary.

Regardless of whether you are required to have a physician’s authorization to purchase weed store merchandise or not, you will need cash. The Federal prohibition mentioned above means banks won’t allow credit or debit card use.

Once you are legally compliant and have some cash to spend, you just need to find a dispensary to shop at.

So, which states have what kind of weed stores? Do you know what your local laws allow? Let’s look.

What States Can You Buy Weed In Right Now?

Here is a sampling of states and what they allow. Because some states’ laws are changing, the list is not entirely comprehensive.

Several states that were strictly medical to start have added recreational. In certain locations, new legislation may be forthcoming to legalize. It’s always best to check your local laws to be sure.

The following places have pot laws allowing purchases from provisioning centers.

Arizona

• This state passed medical marijuana laws in 2010, with sales beginning in 2012.

Recreational sales were okayed in 2020.

• Though there are medical exceptions for minors, the age for legal use is 21. For younger people, parents or guardians can be appointed as caregivers.

• Limits include 2.5 ounces every two weeks for pot patients. It's an ounce per dispensary visit for recreational users. No more than 5 grams in concentrates, extracts, and edibles is the rule.

Arkansas

• Arkansas voted in prescribed pot in 2017, with the first licensed stores opening in 2019.

• Yep, you gotta be at least twenty-one years old.

• Thus far there is no casual use allowed. But there is a ballot initiative for recreational sales and possession in 2022.

• Restrictions stipulate 2.5 ounces of flower for cardholders every 14 days.

buy weed in colorado

Colorado

• It was back in 2000 that Coloradans were allowed to purchase pot with a physician’s prescription. Recreational use was okayed in 2012.

• The legal age is, as in most places, 21.

• It is legal to purchase and possess no more than an ounce of marijuana for non-medical consumers. Those with a med card can have 2 ounces.

Illinois

Medical marijuana was approved for the Land of Lincoln in 2013. Recreational weed followed in January 2020.

• The minimum age is the same as the above states.

• Card-carrying cannabis users can have can get 2.5 ounces every two weeks. All others can only buy and own an ounce. Between flower, edibles, and concentrates there is a cap of 500mg of total THC for both.

Maryland

• This state has had pot for patients since 2014. Recreational ganja is on tap for a November 2022 ballot initiative

• 18 is the legal age here for medical certification.

• 120 grams is the restriction for possession. That’s specified for every 30 days.

Michigan

• The mitten state has both kinds of marijuana available. Cards for prescribed cannabis use have been available since 2009. Casual use was signed into law in 2018.

• You will have to have reached your twenty-first birthday to enjoy either kind of weed in Michigan.

• Whether a patient or just a stoner, 2.5 ounces is the max amount of pot you can possess at any one time.

Minnesota

Medical was legalized in 2014. Otherwise only edibles made from hemp with less than 50mg total THC are okay. Smoking weed without a card is thus far still illegal in 2022.

• If you’re 18 or over, you can get a prescription from your doctor in Minnesota and then apply for a med card.

• Qualified citizens can get and keep up to two and a half ounces of herb every couple of weeks.

Missouri

• 2018 was the year that physician-prescribed pot was voted into law. This is another place with recreational use on the ballot in 2022.

• The acceptable age is twenty-one or older.

• Here you can have a generous 4 ounces per month.

Oklahoma

• Ok, this is the last state we’ll cover. This jurisdiction, too, has medical use marijuana but nothing for non-patients. Yet. There is a proposal on the 2022 ballot.

• 21-year-olds and older can get qualified for med cards.

Qualifying people with a state license can carry 3 ounces, personally. They are allowed up to 8 oz. at home. 1 ounce is the restriction for concentrates and edibles cannot be more than 72 ounces.

Many other places are in the process of legalizing some form of cannabis. So, it’s a good idea to check out your local laws.

Is there anything else you need to know about getting yourself some ganja? Well, what about stoner shopping on vaycay?

Can You Buy Weed On Vacation?

So, you decide to travel but want to toke. Can you buy weed with an out-of-state license?

The short answer is ‘sometimes’. Many states do allow marijuana purchases for tourists.

Those that have recreational generally will let a visitor purchase with a valid ID.  And many medical states will allow vacationing patients to use their home state certification to buy cannabis.

Of the states highlighted above, Arkansas, Nevada, and Oklahoma allow visitor purchases.

Whenever you’re traveling, check the local laws to be sure.

At this point, the only thing left to learn is where to get great ganja deals.

where to buy an oz of weed

Marijuana News: Illinois Decriminalizes, Medical Marijuana in Florida, and More

There has been a lot to celebrate lately in world of marijuana legalization news. Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both seem to support federal marijuana legalization, Illinois just decriminalized marijuana, California voters will decide on recreational marijuana this November, and marijuana patients in Florida can now get their medicine. Why not toke one in honor of these latest little milestones and victories in marijuana legalization efforts?

Illinois marijuana users in can breathe a small sigh of relief thanks to a recent decision to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana within the state. Instead of facing court, arrest, and potential jail time, people who get caught carrying less than 10 grams of marijuana, intended for personal use, will now be hit with just a fine, set at a maximum of $200. This makes Illinois the seventeenth state to decriminalize marijuana possession in small amounts, and the country's third largest state so far to do so. Medical marijuana is currently regulated in Illinois under a pilot program that's recently been extended into 2020 and expanded to make marijuana available to PTSD and terminal illness patients, but before now, possession of non-medical marijuana in any amount was considered a criminal offense instead of a minor civil offense.

For those of us in Colorado and other states where recreational marijuana is legal and we can just walk right into one of the many marijuana dispensaries and buy some bud or even clones–not to mention the marijuana deals , daily specials, and the wide variety of marijuana strains—the idea of a possible $200 fine just for carrying a joint in your pocket seems ridiculously harsh and unfair, but for people in Illinois, it's a big improvement.

Prior to the bill's signing, people who got caught with even weed residue could potentially be arrested on the spot and taken to jail. Or, you might just get a ticket, all depending on the cop's sole decision. While Chicago and approximately 100 other cities in Illinois had already taken the step of giving police officers the ability to issue citations for minor marijuana offenses rather than making arrests, many of the state's lawmakers had concerns about whether or not the police were being unbiased in how they handled marijuana crimes. Democratic Senator Heather Steans, one of the bill's sponsors, stated, “We’re treating people really differently across the state, and we should be really getting out of that.”

Meanwhile in Florida medical marijuana advocates are celebrating the smallest steps towards progress in a state where marijuana laws have been notoriously harsh. Florida approved the medical use of non-euphoric, high CBD marijuana strains for people who have cancer or other debilitating diseases two years ago, but due to delays and obstacles in getting licenses for dispensaries, it was just last week that the first medical dispensary was able to make its first sale. Still, only high CBD strains that are virtually void of THC are available in Florida, such as the Charlotte's Web strain often prescribed to children who need it for its medical benefits. This means that no matter how much you smoke of the medical weed in Florida, you won't at all get high. That might change with a proposed amendment that will be on the November election ballot. Amendment 2 would make medical marijuana available to more patients and it would also allow for strains containing higher THC content. Not a huge step forward, but a step nonetheless.

Across the country, attitudes about marijuana are rapidly changing as cannabis makes the mainstream news daily and more and more states opt to reexamine and transform their marijuana laws. Marijuana is big business, and for the many states struggling with budget issues, cannabis legalization is beginning to look very appealing. California voters will decide on Proposition 64 this November, a California marijuana legalization initiative that would legalize recreational marijuana sales and impose a 15% sales tax, which if it passes, is expected to generate upwards of one billion dollars in tax revenue in the first year alone. With Hillary Clinton representing a Democratic Party platform that urges a pathway towards federal legalization and Donald Trump contradicting the Republican Party platform by recently saying that both medical and recreational marijuana laws should be left up to the states, marijuana consumers, activists, and entrepreneurs have a lot to be hopeful for.

Dispensary Security Guard Duty

Dispensary Security Guard Duty

I have been lucky to work for a dispensary that has always had a guard in place, but for first time visitors there can often be an odd level of off-putting energy surrounding seeing someone armed greeting you at the doorway. Not all dispensaries have guards, but the ones that do I would say are ahead of the curve. There have been several instances of unguarded dispensaries being robbed, generally responding by hiring security the next day, most likely kicking themselves for not jumping on the boat. There is also a level of imaginative paranoia that I personally have where I can totally see security companies hiring essentially hit-men to go rob a dispensary to land contracts, though lets all hope that is not a thing.

But why guards? Simply put, this is a thing that is assumed to be necessary given the assumed clientele that populate the group of people that have been long time weed smokers, but personally even in black market sales safety was rarely something that I felt I had to double take on, as most of the people I have dealt with as well as people I’ve talked to about their experiences never found themselves in any kind of “I think I need to start carrying a gun” mentality. Most of the instances where I feel like I have heard about such things were dealers that didn’t just sell weed, other things like cocaine and pills being more likely to attract violent and unstable people, more along the lines of requiring protection.

But an important thing to consider, something that I have written a decent amount about before, is people that are still operating within the black market, using dispensaries to facilitate their personal sales. There is a massive element of the legal weed market that involves people running to various dispensaries and scalping deals so as to still be able to make a profit when they flip it to neighbors or an established customer base of some kind, as well as people with medical cards that solely use them to get large quantities that they can then flip for more than the running price for medical, which their customers may not have the option to access.

This is a big part of the demographic that is likely to cause a scene in a dispensary, screaming at budtenders because the prices they get quoted don’t allow them to flip for enough profit, then putting the blame on us as an industry, which while that is technically the case it puts us in the compromising position of dealing with having to remove someone from the premises for trying to make us sell to someone that we are then sure are reselling it, which we are legally required to shut down. But when you’ve got a huge dude screaming in your face, banging on counters, it’s nice to have someone to look over to that can help you. This also takes the potential legal implications of removing a customer out of you as the budtender’s hands, and puts it in the hands of a trained professional who’s job is exactly that.

I love our guards, and some of them have remained my friends even after working with them, though of course you can always get the slightly overzealous ones, as most are ex-military or ex-police, nothing to their discredit, some off them just need to calm down a little. But it also doesn’t help when snarky customers berate them about carrying a gun or joke about them not being able to protect anyone, which I have seen happen several times. Even though it can be somewhat off-putting to see a guard in a dispensary just know that you for sure would rather have them there rather than not, and understand that they are not looking to pick a fight, they only want to make sure everything goes as smoothly as it should.
