Having written about the 50th anniversary deluxe reissues of The Beatles (White Album) and Abbey Road, I was somewhat glad that, math aside, the same treatment bestowed upon Let It Be occurred in the midst of our Obscure October, if for no other reason than I could put off the inevitable write-up to follow the Thanksgiving weekend release of Peter Jackson's eagerly anticipated three-part, eight-hour epic Get Back. Hearing the five-LP set first on vinyl left me not only with greater appreciation of the original work (and bewilderment over what Glyn Johns presented as the album Get Back that was rightly rejected by the band – check out the fourth disc of the reissue), but drooling with glee after hearing the raw beauty of those extra tracks, all while wondering the part they played within the mini series. It turned out pretty much everything in the audio format can be seen on Disney+. And that's what makes Get Back the unique experience it is. We are granted fly-on-the-wall access to a legendary band making new music, sometimes out of thin air, with no filter between us and the musicians themselves, except the limitations of the recordings and the whims of a director who is also documenting a filmmaker making a film about a band making a film or TV show or album or whatever they decide it will be. Wow.

In the few weeks since its release, as with all things Beatles, Get Back has already been covered by seemingly every outlet and social media user. The spectrum of responses has been almost (well, not really) as fascinating as the series itself, particularly on the perception of each member of the Fab Four. My personal conclusion is largely, "your opinion of how you see the four of them says a lot more about you than it does John, Paul, George, and Ringo themselves." My overly simplistic takeaway for each band member based on this series alone? Glad you asked.

• Ringo, did you sleep at all during the month of January 1969, or are your constantly bloodshot eyes the result of something other than excessive drinking? Either way, it doesn't matter because you were the first to show up, ever at the ready, happy-go-lucky, and the steady rock of the band. Was your first "real" post-Beatles solo album the only one on which John, Paul, and George all performed? Yes, yes it was. That says it all.
• Paul, you really are a goddamn genius and are more skilled at every single instrument that you and your fellow bandmates play, other than Ringo on drums. Were you overbearing at times? Eh, maybe. Do I think you operated with what you perceived as your best intentions for trying to keep the group together? 100%. The scene with you almost coming to tears after George quit the band while wondering whether Lennon would show up is arguably the most touching moment among the many filling the eight hours. By the way, it would have been nice if you had made an effort to recognize George as an actual musician.
• John, wow, you (probably) would kind of bug the shit out of me if I had to hang out with you, unless I was on the same stuff, then we would have giggled and talked in affected voices endlessly. But at least you were (probably) not on heroin by the time the band regrouped at Apple studios. And when locked in, you were a damn good rhythm guitarist. Also, thanks for bringing Yoko. I know I wouldn't have wanted to do crossword puzzles at home alone while paying little attention to my partner making some of the greatest music in pop history. 
• And George. I should have been clued in by the song "Taxman," but boy do I wish I had kept track of the number of statements revealing your inner miser. You seem to love the guitar, but for someone who admits that the sessions were productive, if for no other reason than to force you to improve by playing every day, your stream of consciousness is revealing. But your boot game is second to none, and even the internet hasn't caught up to the epic displays brought forth thanks to your late 60s cordwainer.

The fact that we are able to witness not only a band, but one almost universally regarded as the most important of the 20th century, create what would be their final release, although not final effort, is what makes Get Back as singular as the quartet themselves. I land firmly in the camp of "no, it is not too long, give me the deluxe edition of this." More so, it supports the prevailing thought I've long held and one in which I undoubtedly reside in the minority, if not as the sole adherent: I'm glad the Beatles never got back together. 

Their recording career was pretty much perfect. It's easy to forget that throughout Get Back, George Harrison is 25 years old. John and Ringo 28, Paul 27. In about six years, the four Liverpudlians made a lifetime's worth of music that will live on for generations. In our current era of widespread nostalgia, TV and movie reboots and remakes, bands from our youth reuniting for Vegas residencies, the yearning for things we previously held so dear is frequently met with derision when the results don't align with our desires, or the new narrative presented changes our perception of what was understood before.

We're left with a cultural vacuum in which our fondest memories are diluted by seeking an unquenchable endorphin thirst. All of which is to say, for things we have forever adored, more often than not, it's best not to long, but rather cherish it for what it was. In other words, let it be.

• Heat your oven to 230 to 245 degrees Fahrenheit
• Spread your ground cannabis on the nonstick baking sheet
• Bake for 30 minutes
• Try not to overbake, as you'll end up baking the cannabinoids right out of the final product.
• After the above has been completed--commonly referred to as ‘decarbing your weed’ --you're ready for the next step of steeping it all on the stovetop. Now, this is the most crucial part, so you don't want to miss a step and make a mistake, something we'll cover in a bit.

Step Two: Cooking Your Creation

• Melt the cup of water and cup of butter together
• Keep your burner on the lowest stovetop heat
• Add your decarbed weed and mix into the heated pot and cover with a lid
• Let simmer on low for a minimum of three hours

Step Three: Straining Your Butter (The finale!)

• Place one or two layers of cheesecloth over a jar and secure them with a rubber band wrapped around the mouth of the jar.
• Slowly pour the butter through the cheesecloth and into the jar
• Let it cool for 30 minutes at room temperature
• After it's cooled and solidified, pour the excess water out that has risen to the top of the jar.

Your cannabutter is now ready to be the primary ingredient in your no-bake edibles. Savor every bite of your creation and prepare yourself to enjoy the wellness benefits of cannabis.

What are the Top 3 Mistakes, and How Can You Avoid Them?

While your final product may seem alright, it's a good idea to add the water as this keeps the temperature low and helps the butter from burning. There's nothing more terrible tasting than burnt cannabutter.

So you see, the key to a perfect cannabutter recipe for your brownies, cookies, or other no-bake edibles involves consistency. It takes a great deal of practice when you first start out and a few hiccups along the way as well, but don't get discouraged. If you saw the last name of today's artist and thought to yourself, "I hope that is one of the brothers from an album featured here back in autumn 2019," well my friend, you are in luck. Unless, of course, you were wishing for a retread of that soulful R&B/blues brand of music that Sam, his older brother Josh, and the rest of the Teskey Brothers have built a steady following upon. 

On this solo debut, Sam trades in his Otis Reading fan club subscription for one blatantly Meddle-era Pink Floyd. If there weren't significant country influences mixed with moments downright reminiscent of the Barr Brothers scattered throughout, one wouldn't be wrong to question whether the junior Teskey listened to anything other than early 70's Floyd while his native Australia was on lockdown. Don't mistake this as a complaint. 

That the output largely succeeds in matching the ambition is a testament to Teskey's skills as a musician and recording artist. By endeavoring to pull off an eleven-song sequence that flows seamlessly from start to finish, four of the tracks either intros or outros, the results lay bare Teskey's design on creating a cohesive work, much like the aforementioned fellow Commonwealth quartet to whom he generously lent an ear. His intent is also revealed in the album's name: Cycles.

National dudeflation remains higher than anyone ever anticipated going into the holiday season. Cool dudeflation rose .420% in November, adjusted for seasonal swings but far worse than previous months, the Bureau of Boring Statistics reported Thursday. 

Rising prices on hats and VR’s contributed to at least half of the increase, while prices for mancave furnishings and subscription shaving kits also climbed. And an index that tracks new nuggersh prices roses 4.20% over the quarter, making the biggest jump since the middle ages. The increase in hoverboard costs, and earbuds, is also worrying, says economist Carol Lott. “People paid extra for inflatable hot tubs last year,” she wrote in a note. “To help, the government gradually phases in nuggersh increases over time. But it’s about to become a huge freakin’ source of dudeflation right here on Main Street.”

Stripping out live rosin and micro-fiber underwear costs--both which tend to be more volatile--prices rose 4.20% over the same period, the same rate as in September. But not everything in Cannatown got more expensive. Trolley tickets, for example, keep getting cheaper. The price index for fares dropped 75% over the last year. That’s not great for Trolleys, and it’s happening even though demand for bell-incessant, slow-moving, open-air travel is recovering from the worst of the pandemic, and largely, a century of irrelevance. So it goes.

"How did we get started on Trolleys?" asked Lott. "Oh yes, we were talking about our grandfathers. Sorry for the tangent."

Lookah really has cornered the market on smoking for dummies. If you want to dab, they have their Seahorse Pro for dummies. Now they've added a dry herb vaporizer called Ice Cream.

First off, let me tell you, this dummy is apparently blue-purple color blind. Factory preset is Half Baked when I thought it was set to Lightly Toasted. It only took me 10 test sessions to figure out why my eyeballs kept escaping their sockets. Or why my nose and lips had temporarily vacated my face.

I gave the Ice Cream to my two toughest vaporizer critics to test. Both Hubby and Thing 1 weren’t quite as riveted. "This still isn't the same as smoking a pipe," they both said.

Here I was, sitting completely blasted, and these two were acting like pipe snobs. If I hadn't been locked to the couch I probably would've bonked them in the heads with my rubber chicken. So I shot them with laser eyes instead and just shook my head.

Once my brain processed a retort I piped up and challenged, "Next time let me crank the heat up to Fully Baked, this is just Lightly Toaaassted. Oh shit, no it's not! No wonder my face has been misplaced, this was Half Baked!"

So for their next session I set it to Fully Baked (white light) and handed it over. Needless to say Thing 1 doesn't want to give my Ice Cream back now. To him it hit just like his pipe without as many coughing fits. He is in love!

Even old-school hubby said, "That's the closest I've seen a vaporizer get to a pipe." And while that may not seem like a glowing recommendation, it truly is, coming from that old man.

In a Nutshell:
I have mixed feelings about this vaporizer. I love the overall use. Fill it, turn it on, select temp. When it vibrates, start hitting it until it vibrates to turn off. No holding down any buttons or trying to figure out when to start hitting it.

Loading is a little clumsy and it's hard to tell how full it is. Just use a rolling tray to catch any spillage as you fill the oven. Or use an old medicine bottle to dump herb in. I prefer the medicine bottle versus the pinch method.

I was impressed by how quickly this vaporizer reached its set temp. This unit also stays a lot cooler than most I have tested. Even after a few back-to-back sessions with the family.

Changing temperatures is super easy too. Just click the power button once. Click again to go up one more. I start my session on green to get all the wonderful tasting terps. Then after about 90 seconds I change it to purple for that half baked pain relief setting. No complications whatsoever.

My concern is over the cleaning. There is no way to get into the chamber to really clean it between uses or to give it a really good one every other day. So I worry about tar build-up over time clogging up the oven. Personally I clean the oven with an alcohol Q-tip every evening or as needed.

Getting the spent herb out of the oven with the pick tool is a little challenging too. The floating screen in the oven is a little weird to work around. It can sometimes flip the spent herb into what I assume is the heating element? So I end up blowing it out, which sometimes gets spent herb all over! Not fun!

The mouthpiece also has a screen under the plug cap. This screen is removable, while the one on the oven is not.

The mouthpiece screen is probably where most of the tar will land, and thankfully, it’s super easy to clean. I just wish Lookah would've included some replacement screens in the box. Make sure to clean the plug, screen and mouthpiece often (daily or every-other-day depending on how often you use it). It will otherwise clog with tar and some herb that escapes the oven chamber.

The battery doesn't last long. I am sure the number of sessions one can get on a charge also depends on what heat setting you choose. On the highest (White - Fully Baked) it is 3 full sessions. Charge time is 2-2.5 hours. This is not a terrible performance if using solo. 

You need to remember this isn't a Pax or DaVinci IQ2--and it costs a fraction of the price. Comparably, battery life on the DaVinci is phenomenal for instance, and its many features like  easy dosing and sleek app constitute the higher value.

However, at just $80, the Lookah Ice Cream won't break the bank like those more advanced units. This is a sure-fire roast perfect for anyone whether new to medical or recreational cannabis or a seasoned veteran.

Drawbacks were otherwise insignificant. I was hoping the name Ice Cream meant the vape would somehow be cooler than normal but it really wasn't. Overall the unit was cooler (even the mouthpiece) than most others, and that's a huge plus. The manual also suggests the light will turn from red to green when fully charged. My light turns blue. No, not blue-green color-blind either. When you cycle the temperatures note how green the green light is. Nope, my fully charged light is blue. 

What I did find wonderfully surprising about this vaporizer was the taste. Comparing terp taste between the DaVinci and Ice Cream, hands down, Ice Cream is the winner here.

Due to price and ease of use I still give this unit 5 out of 5 stars. It doesn't make the wow list or get the Wacky Racky seal of approval, but it gets pretty darn close.

What Exactly is an Eighth of Weed? 

Ah, yes. The marijuana eighth.

What is a Joint?

If its predecessor was designed to be featured in commercials, the acoustic-based Chillers is full of tracks longing to occupy those sappy scenes of reconciliation between two leads when everything aligns for the titular character. The vibe is not an accident. It's a collection of previously released, uhh, chillers, from the Connecticut-based band, along with a handful of demos, which in at least one case is better than the official version. Whether or not the tunes were tailored for film or TV, they nestle in nicely with the arrival of cooler temperatures.

A Guide to the Different Types of Wax Dabs: What They Are and Why You Want Them 

As research into cannabis accelerates, thanks to changing public sentiment and subsequent legislation, companies are not only discovering new compounds, properties, and uses for this amazing flora, but they’re also finding new and exciting ways to process it for consumption, including various types of wax dabs. 

What Are Wax Dabs?

Although concentrates are thought to have been around since about the 1940s and dabs were first invented back in the ‘70s, this type of consumption remained relatively niche for decades. This was perhaps because dabs are considered difficult and potentially dangerous to produce, depending on the form of extraction used. 

Today, concentrates are considered to be an ideal way to enjoy the many benefits that cannabis has to offer in an incredibly potent, cost-effective way. 

Of course, there are a lot of weed concentrates to choose from, including distillates, oils, live resin, caviar, crystalline, wax, and more. There are also several different types of wax dabs. 

If you’ve heard of dabbing and you’re interested in giving it a try, here’s what you need to know to make an informed decision. 

What is Dabbing?

Even if you’re already familiar with other forms of cannabis consumption, such as smoking flower, ingesting tinctures, or sampling a wide range of edibles (candies, gummies, chocolates, baked goods, and even beverages), you might not have a good understanding of what dabbing entails. 

It starts with several different types of wax dabs, which can range from viscous oils to sticky sugar wax to creamy budder, brittle crumble, and hard shatter. 

If you know anything about cannabis plants, you know that the buds are covered with trichomes, which are tiny, crystalline structures that contain the hundreds of cannabinoids and terpenes the plant is known for. 

Dabs are concentrates created by extracting compound-laden oils from the trichomes using a wide array of processes. 

Common extraction methods involve the application of heat and pressure, washing in a water and ice bath, or via chemical processes involving solvents, like CO2 or butane, for example. 

Butane processing — used to create butane hash oil (BHO) — is among the most popular methods and is often used to create a range of wax dabs. The resulting substances contain incredibly concentrated and potent levels of cannabinoids, like psychoactive THC and terpenes. 

Whereas flower might contain about 10-20% THC, depending on the strain, dabs could have as much as 80% (sometimes more). This means that only a very small amount needs to be heated in a dabbing rig, creating vapors that are inhaled, in order to get the same effects of smoking a significantly higher volume of flower, for example. 

The Benefits of Dabbing

Before you start exploring the wide world of wax dabs, you need to understand that concentrates are incredibly potent. A little goes a long way! 

You should start with very small amounts until you understand the effects that dabbing will produce for you. Wax dabs deliver an intense experience you may not be prepared for, so it’s always best to start low, go slow, and work your way up to your desired effects. 

When you exercise caution and choose safe, tested products, you will likely enjoy several benefits with dabbing. First and foremost, you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck. Dabs may seem like they’re expensive compared to flower — especially for the small volume you receive — but because of their elevated potency, you’re sure to find that you get more for your money. 

In addition, you can get the same experience as smoking a blunt from a tiny inhale of vapor. It’s much quicker and easier than smoking, and you’ll enjoy immediate and substantial effects, such as relief, relaxation, and/or euphoria, depending on the product. 

If you’re worried about the potential health concerns and the social stigma of smoking, you want something more potent than edibles, you’re seeking fast, cost-effective options for relief, or all of the above, wax dabs could be a solution worth exploring. 

The next step is understanding what the different types of wax dabs are and what sets them apart from one another. 

Common Types of Wax Dabs

There are several forms of concentrates to choose from, but if you want to try dabbing, wax is your best option. Powdered kief or dry hash, for example, is not ideal for use with a dabbing rig, as getting it onto the tiny nail to heat it is challenging, to say the least. 

Wax dabs come in a range of consistencies, from thick liquids to hard sheets. It’s always best to try different products to see which you like.

Here’s a quick rundown of the different wax dabs and what makes each one unique. 

Oil Dabs

Cannabis oils may be consumed in a number of ways, depending on how they are extracted and refined. These viscous substances can be used for vaping, turned into tinctures that you can consume sublingually or simply ingest, or made into oil dabs, which are a bit thicker and not ideal for vaping. 

One of the most common forms of extraction is a chemical process using butane, which produces concentrates of great potency. It also preserves terpenes, unlike some other forms of extraction. 

The instrument-grade butane used for this process is purified, pressurized, and delivered at extremely low temperatures, gently separating the oils from the plant. 

When the process is complete, any residual butane is purged from the oil to create a safe, pure product that contains concentrated cannabinoids, along with all of the terpenes that deliver the aroma and flavor of the plant — not to mention the full entourage effect. 

Another reason this method of extraction is so popular is that it creates opportunities for wax dabs of different consistencies, whereas some other methods are more limited in what they produce. 

In addition to BHO, CO2 and propane are other forms of solvent extraction. There are also several forms of solventless extraction (dry-sifting, freeze-drying, ice water bath, a combination of heat and pressure, and so on). Solvent extraction tends to generate the purest, most potent products. 

Sugar Wax Dabs

When you see sugar wax, you’ll understand how it got its name. The consistency is very much like mixing a small amount of water into a pile of sugar crystals. It is much like a sugar scrub you might use on your body, where the sugar is wet, but granular, rather than dissolved. 

Although it is mostly liquid, it is very thick and sticky. This makes it great for dabbing, as it’s easy to place a small amount on the nail head for heating. 

Sugar wax is most commonly made via chemical extraction (BHO), like many other types of cannabis wax. 

Budder Dabs

Budder is among the most popular forms of wax because of its smooth, creamy consistency, often compared to butter. It’s not quite as sticky as sugar wax, which makes it a bit easier to work with, particularly where portioning is concerned. However, it will still stay put when you apply it to the nail in your dabbing rig. 

Budder is sometimes confused with similarly-named “badder.” While the two are actually very alike, badder is slightly more liquid. 

How can you tell the difference? While budder essentially holds its shape, like cake frosting, badder is looser and it will slowly spread. 

There are many shades of wax between viscous oil and hard shatter, and budder and badder are just two of the in-between consistencies. 

Crumble Dabs

Also made from the BHO method of extraction, crumble is far less wet and sticky than some other types of wax. As you can imagine, it gains its moniker from a drier, more brittle consistency than creamy budder. 

Crumble is not entirely dry like a powder, though. It still retains some moisture, making it similar to a crumbly cheese, like feta, cotija, or goat cheese. 

In other words, you can easily flake it apart into smaller pieces, but the crumbled bits themselves will more or less hold together. 

While budder is often considered to be the happy medium between wet products like oil and drier products like crumble, you may find the dry end of the wax spectrum easier to work with. 

It all depends on your personal preferences, which is why it’s a good idea to try different types of wax to discover what works best for you. 

Shatter Dabs

This BHO product is hard and brittle, like spun sugar, although it’s most often compared to a sheet of glass. It’s called shatter because you can break it into pieces, either by snapping off a corner or simply smashing it. 

Shatter is smooth, solid, stable, and easy to store, which makes it ideal for anyone who plans to make their supply last for a while. Although it’s not quite as easy to dab as budder or stickier products, it does have the distinction of being among the purest forms of concentrate available. 

With so many types of wax dabs on the market and so many appealing benefits associated with dabbing, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t consider giving dabs a try. Just make sure to start slow if you’re new to dabbing so that you can ensure a positive and enjoyable experience!

It's only three weeks into the holiday season, and already local foundation Angel Cheefers has their hands full.

Already, 420 cadets have found circles across Cannatown to roast with this season, many of whom will share in a munchies feast thereafter as well. Sometimes the program can even match recipients by their strain or ingestion preferences. For instance, Mya Bryant of Shwagsburg is used to mid-grade beasties. She prefers good bud but can't dab or use a steamroller without explosively vomiting. It's embarrassing to even ask for donated puffs from circles she passes without walking away ashamed. This year she was comfortably paired with an elderly couple that likes to roll joints. "Its perfect," she says, relieved, "I even brought my own roach clip." Without the Angels, she says, there'd only be buzzkill in her stocking.

"I just didnt know how I was going to get blazed this year," says Fred Winston, another applicant who is down on his luck, and, worse, has no nearby friends or family holding, much less, ready to share. "Thankfully the Angel Cheefers have me covered." Sometimes, the offer to cheef can blossom into a beautiful relationship. "We're still waiting for Mitch to move off of our couch from last year," says one charitable giver, Charles Finney. He and his fiancée Matilda have been volunteer circle hosts each year now, and say that, despite the occasional unwanted roomates, they will never stop participating in Angel Cheefers because kind souls once helped them.

"I'll never forget," recalls Finney, "I was visiting family in Squaresville years ago, so desperate for a chance to smake that I went for a walk in the cold to search for ditchweed. A car I walked by rolled down its windows and smoke billowed out, and two very cheefed-out fellas asked if I needed to hotbox quick. I said yes please and thanked them for the yuletide miracle. And I remember thinking, some day I want to be a cheef angel for another poor bastard, just like those guys."

"Part of me believes they really were angels," he adds.

BREAKING - A giant 34-foot statue has been erected in the community of Fezziwig, Authorities report, but no one knows how it got there. The monstrosity, sculpted from what appears to be Cheez Whiz, is in the shape of an anatomically-obtuse giant boar. The monument was not announced to or by city officials, who say that the mere size of the pedestal alone suggests a construction crew worked through the night. Yet nobody knows who paid for a crew of such magnitude, or who coordinated what appears to have required nearly 200 volunteers to lay the final layers of Whiz straight from cans, assuming they were, at minimum, shaping the detailed contours of the hog’s bristled hair with plastic knives and sharp sticks.

“When we woke up this morning, there was the statue, greeting the citizens for the morning commute,” said city manager Brenda Hawthorne. “But when it comes right down to it, nobody really filed any paperwork to build a statue there, much less 30 feet tall and made of a foul, synthetic cheesy goo.” Yet, it wasn’t so much the strange effigy near the townsquare, as the celebration that followed, that was, in all other ways, completely unexplainable.

Almost immediately at dawn, a crowd gathered around the statue. In addition to novelty photographers, other vendor booths quickly sprung up to hock tshirts and other boar and Cheez Whiz keepsakes, to accommodate the almost immediate stream of sudden tourists descending upon the scene. By 9 a.m., an extensive tent city sprawled for blocks and press vans came pouring in from other suburbs.  

Authorities say they were further perplexed by the somewhat spontaneous parade that ensued at 9:30, complete with at least three marching bands, a few floats, official Grand Master and fire truck. “We’re not sure where the bands came from and it wasn’t even one of our city fire trucks” said Hawthorne, adding, “the whole thing took us entirely off-guard.”

Residents reacted with surprise, some pleasantly, some, not so much. While dozens spontaneously showed up dressed in full boar costumes and cheered, at least one subset of the crowd--portly men with boxes of crackers--were not happy. "It’s spoiled Whiz, we can't even eat it," one lamented.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the monstrosity, Hawthorne believes investigators will be hot on the trail soon. “We’re assuming it’s some kind of local frat, even maybe a cult that worships Cheez Whiz,” she said. “Or at the very least, someone with steady access to dump trucks of the stuff. Seems like that might be an important clue.”

According to local historian John Kaiser, an organized group is likely not to blame, other than a random few, energetic and blazed cityfolk. "It’s probably just a couple of people who got ripped on a Saturday and stormed the town center to erect a huge statue from ten metric tons of sprayable-cheddar. It's happened before, long before our time, but this is history repeating itself.”

“The question is, what to do with that much lukewarm cheese gravy,” he added, “before the next sunny day covers the whole hill in nacho sludge?”
