Are there any qualifications for cannabis buying and consumption in this California city? Sure, there’s always legal guidelines when it comes to getting ganja. Here’s what you need to know. 

First of all, medical marijuana patients must be at least 18 with a doctor’s recommendation. They also have to apply for a state-issued card. Recreational tokers must be at least 21 years old.

How much weed can you buy? Those with a med card have higher possession limits. They also can grow more plants at home. Altogether, pot patients can have 6 to 12 plants and eight ounces of cannabis at a time. Casual users can own six plants max and up to an ounce of flower.

Do you have to be a native Californian? No, out-of-state stoners can shop at LA dispensaries. Factually, tourists can buy weed legally throughout the state. All you need is a valid driver’s license for recreational. California doesn’t recognize out-of-state medical certification. But you can apply for one without a local address. With the day of fright creeping just around the corner, we just had to conjure up some halloween edibles recipes for your up-and-coming Monster Mash.

If you want to do Halloween right this year and truly make it something special, let us show you the edible making process and set you up with some Halloween edible recipes.

Making Halloween Edibles

Marijuana edibles are some of the most potent means of ingesting cannabis, and quite the adult party favor at any Halloween Party! Just make sure your guests are well informed and prepared. For connoisseurs, they can be a real hoot. But for newer consumers, it can be a little intense. 

Step 1: Cannabutter

Cannabis butter, also known as cannabutter, is a primary ingredient when infusing edibles. Most edibles on the market use some form of cannabutter which produces the high that most people want. 

Cannabutter is the beginning point of your edible making journey. You're going to need a lot of flower for this step, so save on an ounce of weed to start your process.

When making cannabutter:

• Use high quality cannabis as a plus
• Use fatty, high quality butter (avoid using fat-free butter or margarine)
• Grind your cannabis (Not too fine)

Shopping List For Cannabutter

• 1 ounce shake (make sure to grind and decarboxylate)
• 4 sticks of butter
• 2 cups of water
• A non-sticking baking sheet
• Cheesecloth (or coffee maker)
• Airtight glass jar
• A big pot

When you are making your batch of cannabutter, it is recommended that  you use a 1:1 ratio of marijuana flower to butter. If this ends up being too much for you and want milder effects just use less marijuana. 

Your Basic Instructions For Making Cannabutter

1. Grind All Your Flower Up: Use a grinder or your hands to break down the flower to have an even consistency. You don’t want a fine powder in the end.
2. Decarb Your Buds: Start by Preheating your oven to 245ºF. Use a baking sheet and put loose, ground buds on it. Let it heat for 30-40 minutes. Every 10-15 minutes, stir the flowers slowly to expose all the flower buds to heat.
3. Let Your Butter Melt: Put your stove on a low heat. Melt your 4 sticks of butter in a saucepan or slow cooker. Add 2 cups of water, this helps to regulate temperature.Add Your Cannabis Into The Mix: When the butter finishes melting, feel free to then add the decarbed marijuana.
4. Let Your Mixture Simmer: Set the stove between 160-200ºF, let your mixture simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours. Don’t go any higher than 200ºF or you risk burning off precious cannabinoids from the mixture. Never let it come to a full boil.
5. Strain Your Mixture: Put your cheesecloth over the jar. Then pour your cannabutter mixture through the cloth. You can throw away any plant material left behind.
6. Refrigerate Your Final Product: The last step, put the jar of butter in your fridge. Allow the butter to solidify before cooking with it. Usually just overnight.

• 11 oz dark chocolate
• 1 cup sour cream
• 4 eggs
• Oreo cookies

Your Basic Instructions:

1. Pour dry ingredients (pudding mix, cake mix, etc.) into your bowl. Then add eggs, cannabis oil, and sour cream. Set your mixer on low and mix. Blend until the batter is thick.
2. Use an ice-cream spoon and fill the cupcake molds until they are a little more than 1/2 full. Bake the cupcakes for 15 or so minutes. Let them cool afterward.
3. For frosting to top off your cupcakes, chop up 11 oz. of dark chocolate and melt the chocolate in your microwave. Let cool for a few and then stir in some sour cream. Spread the frosting on each of the cupcakes.
4. Crush up Oreos and top each cupcake with a dusting of cookie crumbs. Giving a dirt appearance.

The Hangman’s Nerds Rope

Shopping List:

• Large sheet of parchment paper
• ¼ cup cannabutter
• 1/4 cup water
• 3 oz. lime Jello or 4 sheets of Gelatin
• 1/2 cup of water
• 1/4 cup corn syrup
• 1/2 tsp sunflower lecithin

Your Basic Instructions

1. Add your gelatin to a 1/4 cup of water. Set this aside to let it soften. You can skip this part if you are using Jello.
2. Add corn syrup (¼ cup) into 1/2 cup water then add to medium pot.
3. Add the lime jello to the mixture and then heat to medium temperature until the mixture hits a boil.
4. Turn heat down to low, and allow the mixture to simmer
5. Stir in sunflower lecithin and slowly stir the gelatin mixture (set aside) into the mix. Allow it to dissolve while the rest simmers.
6. Add your cannabutter then mix it in well.
7. Pour the mixture into a rope-like mold and you’ve got yourself some Nerds rope you can get high from.  

Caramel and Chocolate Covered Apples

Ingredients

• 1 bag of caramels
• 1 can of evaporated milk
• 6 Granny Smith apples
• 2 cups of chocolate chips (melted)
• 1 cannabis-infused milk chocolate
• Parchment paper

Your Basic Instructions

1. Line a cookie sheet with your parchment paper.
2. Cook the bag of caramels with your milk in a large saucepan on a medium to low temperature until all the caramels are fully melty and the mixture has a smoothness. Stir frequently.
3. Remove the mixture from the stove for 5 minutes to cool.
4. Take the apples and skewer them. Then dip each one into the caramel.
5. Refrigerate the apples until the caramel hardens.
6. Take the apples out of the fridge and place your chocolate chips and your cannabis-infused chocolate bar in a bowl. Heat the chocolate for 30 seconds intervals while stirred in-between.
7. Take the apples and dip each into the melted chocolate. Let them cool off for a few.
8. Enjoy! A quick and easy edible just right for Halloween.

What are the Differences Between Vape Pens and Cartridges?

First of all, there’s more to vaping than just these two pen options. There’s also dry leaf vaping. And then there are tabletop vaporizers. 

Herb vaping is somewhat complicated. You got to grind the ganja flower and then pack the heating chamber. And they must be brushed out and cleaned. But some prefer the taste of roasted leaf versus oil or concentrates.

Tabletop vapes have a mouthpiece on the end of a hose that connects to a plug-in base. They can be used for either concentrates or herb. But they’re not very portable.

The two simplest devices are disposable pen vapes and cartridges for battery bases.

Disposables are one solid unit. They usually come in a cardboard box that you open to get at the pen. All you gotta do is press a button to begin puffing. Some you don’t even have to do that, you just inhale.

These throw-aways usually last for around 100 hits, then they’re done.

There’s obviously a bit more to the cart and battery base combo. The components are usually sold separately. You buy the base and then buy various cartridges to use with it.

Many 510 pens have a variable heat setting. With a double click, you can go from low to medium to high energy settings. That affects how hot the oil gets and thus how strong the hit is. 

Of course, using the higher setting will drain the battery faster. The base can be recharged again and again for many months before it is spent. And a full charge can last for dozens of hits, again depending on how high you set the temp.

Eventually, you’ll need to buy a new vape base for your carts.

Now, these are the major differences between the two types of portable vaporizer pens. Which will get you the most mileage overall? 

Do Cartridges or Disposable Vapes Last Longer?

Both kinds of vaping devises will give you well over a hundred puffs. With variable temperatures, rechargeable vapes may give fewer hits if kept on high.

So, which lasts longer?

The best answer to this question is “It depends”. The more you use either, the less time you will have before it is out of oil or the battery drains.

Obviously, with carts and battery bases, you replace an emptied cartridge with a fresh one. And when the base is out of charge, you just plug it in for a while.

Technically, you could say the cartridge option lasts the longest. After all, you can refill and repower the pen.

Solventless

Solventless extracts are concentrates which claim to have no solvents involved while extracting (contains no propane, butane, or similar solvent). These are considered the most “organic” form of marijuana concentrates.

Solventless concentrates consist of sauce, diamonds, ice hash, and rosin.

Solvent-Based

Solvent-based concentrates  use propane, CO2, butane, or ethanol to extract the cannabinoids and terpenes from the flower. The textures, characteristics,taste, and color in the final concentrate form are typically used to name each cannabis product. 

Solvent-based concentrates include: wax, shatter, crumble.

Forms of Marijuana Concentrates

Armed with more concentrate knowledge, let’s talk about the different consistencies you’ll find while shopping for concentrates.

Wax

Wax is the most common type of marijuana concentrate. In the final form, waxes are usually sticky to the touch. Its yellow/amber color gives the concentrate a look like a kind of tree sap. Waxes are often extracted using butane and propane. 

Waxes are a good first step in using concentrate products. They tend to stay pretty consistent in potency so you will always know what you’re getting into. Wax also has the ability to retain the original terpenes to the best of its ability.

Shatter

The shatter form of concentrate is by far one of the most popular forms of cannabis extracts.

Shatter gets its name from looking so fragile, it might “shatter”. When packaged, you can typically find shatter wrapped in parchment paper due to shatter’s stickiness.

Shatter’s appearance presents a clear, smooth, and solid final product. Naturally, the final appearance of the product saids everything you need to know about the quality of your concentrate. Look for a honey-like appearance and absolutely avoid blackened concentrates.

Ice Hash

Ice wax is a form of bubble hash which is made by utilizing frozen plant material.

Ice wax is made by using a specialized ice extraction technique which is solventless. The outcome of this technique is pure trichomes (kief). The concentrate maintains its natural aromas and terpene profiles.

Distillates

Distillates are relatively new in the concentrates area of cannabis. Many distillate  products are much more discreet and convenient to use compared to other concentrates on this list. 

Distillates are known to be much more potent than some of the other concentrates on this list. On average, shatters and waxes are between 60%-75% THC while distillates can go as high as 99% THC. 

Though with the refinement process, natural terpenes are usually non-existent in the end product.

Rosin

Rosin is another concentrate which is made without any solvents. Rosin uses compressed heat to extract concentrates from dried buds or kief. 

The appearance is golden and oil-like.  The final product takes on a shatter or even ice wax consistency. Rosin is the most natural concentrate and is popular for this.

Live Resin

Live resin is special because it is extracted using live plants. Using live plants leads to live resin being higher in terpenes in comparison to other concentrates. 

The live resin process starts with a freshly harvested marijuana plant which is then put into freezing immediately. Freezing the plant preserves the trichomes from being hurt by sunlight or other THC degrading elements.

Live resins vary in appearance from batch to batch but are normally golden in color.  Live resin is typically the go to for the most flavorful of the concentrates.

Diamonds and Terp Sauce

Diamonds and terpene sauce  actually come from Live Resin as its origin point. They use a freezing process which preserves freshness and cannabinoid profiles.

After freezing, the product of live resin is stored in jars. This process builds pressure in the jars. The pressure creates THCA crystals also known as diamonds. Diamonds sink to the bottom of the consistency. The rest of the consistency is juicy terpene sauce. Rich in flavor.

Those locations that require cards have set fees and procedures for obtaining them. Medical authorization requires a doctor’s certification for potential patients. Time frames for the process of getting a card vary.

Regardless of whether you are required to have a physician’s authorization to purchase weed store merchandise or not, you will need cash. The Federal prohibition mentioned above means banks won’t allow credit or debit card use.

Once you are legally compliant and have some cash to spend, you just need to find a dispensary to shop at.

What States Can You Buy Weed In Right Now?

Here is a sampling of states and what they allow. Because some states’ laws are changing, the list is not entirely comprehensive.

Several states that were strictly medical to start have added recreational. In certain locations, new legislation may be forthcoming to legalize. It’s always best to check your local laws to be sure.

The following places have pot laws allowing purchases from provisioning centers.

Arizona

• This state passed medical marijuana laws in 2010, with sales beginning in 2012.

• Recreational sales were okayed in 2020.

• Though there are medical exceptions for minors, the age for legal use is 21. For younger people, parents or guardians can be appointed as caregivers.

• Limits include 2.5 ounces every two weeks for pot patients. It's an ounce per dispensary visit for recreational users. No more than 5 grams in concentrates, extracts, and edibles is the rule.

Arkansas

• Arkansas voted in prescribed pot in 2017, with the first licensed stores opening in 2019.

• Yep, you gotta be at least twenty-one years old.

• Thus far there is no casual use allowed. But there is a ballot initiative for recreational sales and possession in 2022.

• Restrictions stipulate 2.5 ounces of flower for cardholders every 14 days.

Colorado

• It was back in 2000 that Coloradans were allowed to purchase pot with a physician’s prescription. Recreational use was okayed in 2012.

• The legal age is, as in most places, 21.

• It is legal to purchase and possess no more than an ounce of marijuana for non-medical consumers. Those with a med card can have 2 ounces.

Illinois

• Medical marijuana was approved for the Land of Lincoln in 2013. Recreational weed followed in January 2020.

• The minimum age is the same as the above states.

• Card-carrying cannabis users can have can get 2.5 ounces every two weeks. All others can only buy and own an ounce. Between flower, edibles, and concentrates there is a cap of 500mg of total THC for both.

Maryland

• This state has had pot for patients since 2014. Recreational ganja is on tap for a November 2022 ballot initiative. 

• 18 is the legal age here for medical certification. 

• 120 grams is the restriction for possession. That’s specified for every 30 days.

Michigan

• The mitten state has both kinds of marijuana available. Cards for prescribed cannabis use have been available since 2009. Casual use was signed into law in 2018.

• You will have to have reached your twenty-first birthday to enjoy either kind of weed in Michigan.

• Whether a patient or just a stoner, 2.5 ounces is the max amount of pot you can possess at any one time.

Minnesota

• Medical was legalized in 2014. Otherwise only edibles made from hemp with less than 50mg total THC are okay. Smoking weed without a card is thus far still illegal in 2022.

• If you’re 18 or over, you can get a prescription from your doctor in Minnesota and then apply for a med card.

• Qualified citizens can get and keep up to two and a half ounces of herb every couple of weeks.

Missouri

• 2018 was the year that physician-prescribed pot was voted into law. This is another place with recreational use on the ballot in 2022.

• The acceptable age is twenty-one or older.

• Here you can have a generous 4 ounces per month.

Oklahoma

• Ok, this is the last state we’ll cover. This jurisdiction, too, has medical use marijuana but nothing for non-patients. Yet. There is a proposal on the 2022 ballot.

• 21-year-olds and older can get qualified for med cards.

• Qualifying people with a state license can carry 3 ounces, personally. They are allowed up to 8 oz. at home. 1 ounce is the restriction for concentrates and edibles cannot be more than 72 ounces.

Many other places are in the process of legalizing some form of cannabis. So, it’s a good idea to check out your local laws.

Can You Buy Weed On Vacation? 

So, you decide to travel but want to toke. Can you buy weed with an out-of-state license?

The short answer is ‘sometimes’. Many states do allow marijuana purchases for tourists.

Those that have recreational generally will let a visitor purchase with a valid ID.  And many medical states will allow vacationing patients to use their home state certification to buy cannabis.

There may be no better summer fair food than a homemade Twinkie of sorts, and today we're making them chocolate with marshmallow peanutbutter filling. Yes, they are precisely as addictive as they appear. 

Ingredients
The Cake 
6 eggs 
2 cups of flour 
3 tbsp (heaping) cocoa powder
1 tsp salt
Unflavored gelatin pack (Knox)
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil (infused)
1 tbsp baking powder
Vanilla (Good splash)
1 cup water
1 bag chocolate chips

The Filling
10oz bag of marshmallows 
1/2 cup corn syrup 
1 cup peanut butter

The Drizzle
1 bag white chocolate chips 
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup milk

Directions
You’ll need two bowls. In the first, mix all of the dry ingredients. Gently stir in the oil and water until just combined. In the second bowl, beat the whole eggs until they look like they’ve tripled in volume. 

Preheat your oven to 325 at this point. Prep your pans (any type of Twinkie pan out there) -- depending on the type, you may or may not need some oil to prevent sticking. 

Gently fold your egg fluff into the flour mix in quarter amounts.  As soon as you see no streaks of color, you are done. Pour the batter about ¾ full in each. Bake for 30 minutes, rotate, and bake for another 30 minutes (1 hour total). Cool upside down until completely cool. Do not rush that part and yes they may still be difficult to release. These are sponge cakes! Be patient and careful; when cooled, you may have to trim what becomes the bottom of the cake to be flat. Keep those scraps (they are deliciously strong).

Using a toothpick (or similar), hollow out three holes on each before you pipe in the filling--just makes it easier. Melt the marshmallows, corn syrup and peanut butter in a pan until it becomes a thick goo. Fill piping bag with a filling tip. Put a small push of goo into each hole. Flip and freeze (makes it easier to dip and sets quicker). When ready, melt the bag of regular chocolate chips, and dip each upside-down in molten chocolate. 

Next, the drizzle. Melt the white chocolate, milk and peanut butter; It should be pretty smooth and silky. Decorate the tops as you see fit -- lattice or your choice of design.   

You're done! Serve and enjoy. It doesn’t matter the dosage you choose -- these little snack cakes will disappear fast!

It’s not a crock if you want to learn how to make cannabutter with your pot. Why not? Some infused butter can instantly turn your favorite foods into excellent edibles.

Weed food is a wonderful way to enjoy cannabis. While smoking, vaping, and dabbing provide faster results, eating ganja lasts longer. And if you don’t smoke, it’s an alternative way to get high.

How hard is it to make a batch of stoner spread? Not very – in fact, we’ll give you the recipe. Not sure of the supplies needed? We’ll make sure you know what to get.

We will cover decarbing your weed. A necessary step to activate the leaf so that eating it gets you buzzed.

Significantly, we’re going to focus on using a slow cooker to make cannabutter. It’s one of the best ways to cook yourself up some bud butter. Though, you can also use a coffee maker.

Finally, we’ll show you how to get good deals on all the ingredients you will need. Sound good? Let’s get into it.

Decarbing Cannabis

As noted, if you munch some raw cannabis, it won’t do much for you. That’s because it must be decarbed. That means being heated for a period of time. 

THC and CBD in fresh plants are actually THCA and CBDA. They cannot pass through the blood-brain barrier to activate your cannabinoid receptors. Those receptors are how your body utilizes cannabinoids.

Cellular receptors are key to the endocannabinoid system. The ECS regulates important body functions like pain, immunity, appetite, sleep, and mood. Body cells have CB1 and CB2 ports that cannabinoids either hook onto or block.

Decarboxylation changes the chemical structure of cannabinoids. Then they can be absorbed by your body.

To decarb, raw plant matter is spread out on a cookie sheet. Then your oven is heated to 200-245°F. Buds are then baked at 220°F for about 25-40 minutes, depending on temperature. It is now ready for consumption.

Many cannabutter recipes recommend using a conventional convection oven to heat ganja first. But you can also decarb in a crockpot prior to adding the butter.

You would place the weed you want to use in a Mason jar. Then add water to the ceramic pot until it’s half full. Place the jar inside and cover. Set the device on high and let simmer for 4 hours.

Okay, once your flower is ready, what else do you need?

Ingredients Needed for Slow Cooker Cannabutter 

It's time to gather supplies.

1) For ingredients, you will want:

• An ounce of cannabis – decarbed. Think about the effects you want. If you want a bedtime snack, then select an indica. If you want something to boost you through the day, then choose a sativa. Or for balanced benefits, a hybrid strain may be best.

• A pound of salted or unsalted butter – your choice. Some people restrict sodium for lowering blood pressure. It will work with either kind of butter.

• And you will want a cup of water. Your options are bottled distilled water or plain tap water. Again, your option. Either will do.

2) Now, what about equipment?

• Obviously, you’re gonna need a crock pot or multifunction cooker.

• And you’ll need a trusty herb grinder to mulch up your marijuana. You want your cannabis chopped. That way water can surround the pieces and percolate off those all-important cannabinoids.

Lately, there’s been a lot of cannabis culture focus on concentrates. After all, they offer a lot of bang per bong hit. Or a few pulls on your vape pen will get you there - or maybe a drop or two of isolate.

But your personal finances may have you thinking hard about how much wax you can afford. You may worry that your vape cart collection is running dry. Cheap concentrates can help keep you dabbing, even when money is tight. 

At first glance, concentrated weed may seem costly. Compared to flower or edibles, it may look like you’re paying a lot for a little bit of crumble or shatter. But are you comparing apples to apples?

THC levels vary from one kind of cannabis to another. Different strains may have more or less. The strength of edibles can vary depending on the amount of marijuana in them. And, obviously, concentrates imply by their name that they have a lot of cannabinoid kick.

So, how do you know if you’re getting a good deal when spending some green for wax or oil? And what’s the best bet for maximum buzz? Which costs the least?

We’re going to examine extra-strength cannabis closely. We’ll answer the above questions. Then we will leave you with some ways to find great dab deals.

What Different Kinds of Concentrates are There?

The wide variety of waxy weed can be confusing. Generally, they look different from each other. But which is which, and why are they called what they are?

Here is a quick primer on these powerful cannabis solids and liquids.

Shatter is a flat, brittle substance. It tends to be golden yellow in color. It’s easy to dab with because it easily breaks into small, manageable pieces. This makes it popular.

Budder is an amber, soft whipped wax. Because it’s like the spreadable dairy product used in dining, it’s sometimes called butter. It, too, is easy to use, which dabbers like.

Then we have crumble. It is crumbly, hence the name.  The reddish-brown solid has a soft, particulate consistency that makes it very manageable. 

There are pressed waxes like hash or rosin. They vary somewhat in shading from light to dark. Hash is brittle, much like shatter, whereas rosin can be wet and sticky. The latter is gooier to work with but sticks to dab nails nicely.

Resin is a brownish sap. Like rosin, it adheres nicely. 

Resin and rosin both have ‘live’ varieties made from uncured cannabis. Thus, they have more terpenes than dried and cured cannabis products. This increases their potency. 

Vape carts are filled with liquid the color of maple syrup. It only takes a few pulls from a vaporizer to get most people feeling groovy.

Tinctures and isolates tend to be clear. A drop or two under your tongue gives you some sublime stoning.

So, now that you know what’s what, which ones hit the hardest?

How Strong Are Various Concentrates?

When it comes to pure power, is there a variety that looms larger than others?

If you just measure THC alone, all the waxes we listed run up over 90% THC. Same thing with vapes and oil drops. So, they are all pretty stout. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they are all the same. 

Again, terpenes can boost the effects of these solids, so that is a consideration. And, as we noted, there are weed waxes that have more of these supercharging substances.

Live rosin and live resin, using fresher flower, tend to preserve more terpenes. Thus, some consider them stronger and better for dabbing. But they are a bit more complicated to produce and that adds increased cost to the consumer.

Trying some live wax for yourself could help you decide if they are worth the extra money. Drag off a friend’s vape if you want to see if buying one is for you.

Otherwise, 90% THC is pretty powerful. So, any of the other forms will still get you plenty high.

If cost is a concern, then which one should you go with? Is there a less pricy option?

What’s the Least Expensive Concentrated Cannabis?

How can you get your hands on some cheaper concentrates? Well, you could buy some buds and make your own. Sometimes, though, there are costs for specialized equipment. And it is a lot of work.

Since live resin and live rosin are more expensive, you might want to avoid those if funds are tight.

But are there price differences between the others? Not appreciably. 

Concentrates are sold by the gram. Less popular strains or varieties could run $25-40 per gram. Middle-tier toking may range from $50-60. And the top shelf stuff can cost from $70 to over a hundred. 

I gram cartridges can be $45 to $100 apiece, depending on the kind. Gram isolate bottles price out around $30-60. Some do go as high as $100.

Inflation and other economic factors will change the above price points. Consider them approximations. 

Another influence can be the kind of weed your dabs are made from. There are high, medium, and low-end strains of marijuana flower. The more premium the source pot plants, the higher cost the concentrate could have. 

Popularity sometimes plays a part. If your provisioning center can charge you more for a fast-selling variety of wax, they may. Same thing if the source strain is a big seller.

Geography also affects ganja prices. Whether it’s leaf, oils, or waxes, where you live can affect what weed costs. West Coast rates may be higher than those in the Midwest.
